Rangers have big nights at St. Henry

Andrew Mackie had a perfect night for the New Knoxville boys track team at a quad at St. Henry on Tuesday. Mackie won  the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash, and the high jump.

On the girls side Cassie Boyle had a perfect night winning both the mile and 200 meter dash. Haley Horstman won the 100 and 300 meter hurdles.

New Bremen edges New Knoxville 3-2 in eight innings

NEW KNOXVILLE — It took an extra inning but the New Bremen Cardinals were able to outlast the New Knoxville Rangers in the opening MAC game for each team 3-2 in eight innings Tuesday  in New Knoxville.

“We kept battling and battling,” Cardinals head coach Josh Bowersock said. “We hit a couple balls early right on the screws but they were hit right at their guys, but in the later innings were kept after them and I think they did a very good job of that.”

Minster pulls away from Parkway, 7-1

MINSTER — Parkway stayed close with Minster for four innings, but some walks, wild pitches and an error gave the Wildcats a chance to break things open in the fifth inning with two outs.

Minster didn’t miss that opportunity. Parkway missed a handful of them.

Devon Poeppelman went the distance on the mound, Ethan Wolf and Adam Niemeyer delivered a pair of RBI hits and Minster put things away late in a 7-1 win over Parkway on Tuesday at Hanover Street Park.

MINSTER — The Minster baseball team did whatever it took to get runs across against Delphos St. John's. It doesn’t take many when senior pitcher Adam Niemeyer is going like he was on Monday.

Kenton beats St. Marys baseball, 5-2

ST. MARYS — Kenton’s big southpaw Noah Furbush took a shutout into the seventh inning and struck out 10 St. Marys batters over his six-plus innings of work in Kenton’s 5-2 win on Monday night at K.C. Geiger Park.

Furbush gave way to Logan Nichols, who closed out the game after St. Marys finally pushed two runs across, but not before he had stymied the Roughriders’ bats for most of the game.

Saturday Sports Round-Up: Minster sweeps Memorial Invite

MINSTER — The Minster boys and girls track teams cruised to wins in the Minster Memorial Invitational  on a cold and windy Saturday.

The Wildcat girls scored 158 points to distance themselves from the 84 points of second-place Marion Local. Versailles took third with 83 points. St. Marys finished seventh with 43.5 points. New Bremen was 10th with 21 points.

The Minster boys collected 191 points for the win. Versailles finished second with 113.5 points. St. Marys took 5th with 38 points. New Bremen was ninth with 29 points.

Thursday Baseball Round-Up

ROCKFORD — The Parkway Panthers had their bats ready Thursday and with seven runs in the first three innings the Panthers defeated the New Knoxville Rangers 11-1 in five innings on a single by Austin Adams that scored Cain Pontsler in a MAC game played at Don Black Stadium in Rockford.

Thursday Softball Round-Up

ST. MARYS — The St. Marys softball team finally got back on the field for the first time in nine days after four straight games were rained out. The Roughriders got greeted back to the diamond by a dominant pitching performance and relentless offensive attack from the unbeaten Shawnee Indians.

Shawnee struck for seven early runs and coasted for a 10-0 five-inning win behind the pitching of Kay Shick at K.C. Geiger Park on Thursday.

Monday Sports Round-Up

GREENVILLE — The St. Marys boys tennis team won a pair of close matches at second doubles and second singles and handed Greenville its first loss of the season in a 3-2 road win on Monday night.

The St. Marys second doubles team of Noah Hartsock and Justin Nedderman outlasted Greenville’s Dylan Blinn and Nathan Horiza, 7-5, 6-3.

Minster sweeps twin bill from Fort Loramie

FT. LORAMIE – The Minster Wildcats baseball team had their bats ready Saturday afternoon as they got out to big leads in both games to sweep a doubleheader at Ft. Loramie 11-1 and 11-2.
