Hegemier retiring after 524 wins, 3 titles

April 9, 2015

ST. MARYS — Dan Hegemier set out to win 100 games and advance one team to the state's final four when he began coaching more than three decades ago.

He eventually became one of the area's most iconic coaches at five schools.

Hegemier, winner of 524 basketball games and three OHSAA state championships, will retire from coaching, he confirmed in a phone interview on Thursday afternoon after turning in his resignation to St. Marys athletic director Jim Hollman last week.
