Horstman hits 1,000 points, Ranger offense breaks out with 76-25 win

NEW KNOXVILLE — One of the most decorated players in Midwest Athletic Conference girls basketball history added another accomplishment to her growing list.

Needing one more basket to reach 1,000 points for her career and time running out on the first half, New Knoxville senior Haley Horstman juked at the top of the key to create an abundance of space, sliced into the lane and canned a 10-foot runner to reach the millenium mark in New Knoxville’s 76-25 win over Spencerville.

Wapak earns first win for Selvey against Minster

WAPAKONETA — After giving up the lead briefly to start the second half, the Wapakoneta Redskins quickly rebounded and closed out the Minster Wildcats in a tight ball game Saturday, giving first-year coach Doug Selvey his first win with the Redskins.

After leading virtually the entire first half, Wapak quickly regained the lead and held onto it the rest of the game in a 53-48 victory Saturday over Minster in the Wapakoneta High School gymnasium.

MAC Round-Up: Homan leads New Bremen to win, Minster and New Knoxville fall

ROCKFORD — New Bremen center Ben Homan scored a game-high 23 points on 11 of 15 shooting to go with six rebounds, carrying the Cardinals to a 48-39 win over Parkway on Friday night.

Homan had a frustrating Saturday night, fouling out early in a fourth-quarter home loss to St. Marys. Homan rebounded with this big game to help New Bremen snap a three-game skid.

Carson Manger, Nolan Fox and Brent Goettemoeller each added six points apiece for New Bremen. Trey Naylor had a team-high seven rebounds, as the Cardinals won the battle on the boards 38-27..

Shawnee's 18-0 run sinks Roughriders, Triplett earns first WBL win

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — First-year Shawnee boys basketball head coach Mark Triplett said his first win in the Western Buckeye League over St. Marys was special all on its own.

Getting a 62-49 win over his alma mater just made it a little sweeter.

“We’re trying to build our tradition here at Shawnee back up to where it has been in the past,” said Triplett, a 2006 Memorial High School grad. “All league wins mean something, but there’s a little something for it to come against the Roughriders.”

Versailles Gets Past New Knoxville, 32-29

NEW KNOXVILLE — Versailles rallied from an early fourth quarter deficit to emerge from a defensive battle against the New Knoxville girls basketball team 32-29 on Thursday night.

With the game tied at 26-26, Christa Puthoff scored on a second-chance putback with 36 seconds left.

On the ensuing possession with 16 seconds left, New Knoxville was called for an illegal screen to give the ball back to Versailles. Rachel Kremer was fouled and made both charity tosses for a 30-26 lead.

Big Third Quarter Propels Shawnee Past Riders 54-34

ST. MARYS — Shawnee made a lot of shots in the third quarter and the Indians usually corralled the ones that did miss the mark in a 54-34 win over the St. Marys girls basketball team on Thursday at Memorial High School.

Shawnee (2-4, 1-1 WBL) grabbed 18 offensive rebounds in the game and exploded for 25 points in the third quarter to win its first Western Buckeye League game.
