NEW KNOXVILLE — Dan Hegemier’s New Knoxville Rangers were unbeatable on their home floor during a run of three straight 20-win regular seasons in the mid 2000s, with a long list of memorable wins during a 63-game regular season winning streak.
In his second return to The Barn as head coach of the St. Marys Roughriders on Friday night, Hegemier added another signature win on that floor.
ST. MARYS — The St. Marys boys basketball team looked like it was on the cusp of running away with Saturday night’s game against Marion Local, holding a a nine-point lead in the waning minutes of the third quarter. Instead, it was the Flyers who ended up speeding away.
Marion Local outscored St. Marys 18-5 in the fourth quarter with a momentum-shifting defensive change to fullcourt pressure and a 3-2 zone and knocked off the Roughriders 45-38.
ST. MARYS — Only one 3-pointer went down for the St. Marys boys basketball team all Friday night. It happened to be the one that sparked the Roughriders’ run away from Kenton for a 56-42 Western Buckeye League victory.
NEW KNOXVILLE — One of the most decorated players in Midwest Athletic Conference girls basketball history added another accomplishment to her growing list.
Needing one more basket to reach 1,000 points for her career and time running out on the first half, New Knoxville senior Haley Horstman juked at the top of the key to create an abundance of space, sliced into the lane and canned a 10-foot runner to reach the millenium mark in New Knoxville’s 76-25 win over Spencerville.
