ST. HENRY — The Minster Wildcats are the lone team in the St. Henry portion of the district ACME bracket without a loss after a pair of wins over the weekend. A 10-4 win over Delphos St. John’s on Saturday and a 10-0 run-rule win over Van Wert on Sunday have Minster a win away from advancing to the finals of the district tourney.
Wapakoneta stayed alive on Sunday with a win over Delphos St. John’s on Sunday a day after falling behind early and losing to Van Wert 10-8 on Saturday at St. Henry.
MINSTER — A rough start to Tuesday night’s game didn’t deter the Minster ACME baseball team from assuring itself of a trip to the district tournament.
Minster pushed a run across in the bottom of the sixth inning and advanced to the title game of the Auglaize County sectional tournament with a 5-4 win over top-seeded St. Marys at Hanover Street Park.
ST. MARYS — The head of the athletic department for the St. Marys School District has stepped down.
Athletic Director Joe Bline issued his resignation Tuesday morning, effective July 31. Bline told The Evening Leader he accepted the same position for the Marysville School District. Bline's decision comes a few days after St. Marys Superintendent Mary Riepenhoff resigned to take a position with Race to the Top.
NEW BREMEN — A quick start and dominating pitching helped spur the New Bremen ACME team to a five-inning win over New Knoxville Monday night.
“Our pitchers really need to work on throwing strikes,” New Knoxville head coach Calib Allen said of his team’s 18-0 loss. “We gave up nine walks in the first two innings and that is unacceptable. We have to have our pitchers be competitive on the mound. They have to keep the ball low to get ground balls.”
