NEW BREMEN 64, FORT RECOVERY 55
COLDWATER — The New Bremen Cardinals survived a rough second quarter and made their free throws down the stretch to advance in the Division IV sectional tournament with a 64-55 victory over the Fort Recovery Indians at Coldwater. The Cardinals (13-8) will advance to the sectional championship on Friday at 8:00 against the Ada Bulldogs. Carson Manger led the Cardinals with 21 points and nine rebounds and Nolan Fox had 14 points.
ELIDA — The fourth quarter and overtime of the St. Marys-Elida game had a little bit of everything: a kick-off return for a touchdown, a touchdown given up on purpose, a final-minute 44-yard touchdown pass from the Lonesome Polecat formation and a controversial game-deciding two-point conversion.
Through it all, St. Marys didn’t crumble, and it didn’t back down.
St. Marys avenged last week’s fourth-quarter collapse with a signature 47-46 overtime win over the Elida Bulldogs at Kraft Memorial Stadium.
ST. MARYS — The fourth quarter started so promising for the St. Marys football team, but it was Kenton that dominated the final 10 minutes of what had been a Western Buckeye League defensive struggle.
The Roughriders held Kenton’s five-wide spread attack in check for more than three quarters and the Roughrider offense drove the field to give St. Marys a brief one-point early fourth-quarter lead, but a barrage of three touchdowns in less than four minutes lifted Kenton to a 26-7 win.
SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — The momentum from St. Marys’ Week 1 win over Sidney simply didn’t carry over into Week 2.
A two score deficit proved to be too much to overcome for the St. Marys football team in the fourth quarter after play resumed on Saturday afternoon. Shawnee handed the Roughriders a 34-20 loss in a Western Buckeye League opener.
