State Football Attendance Up: The OHSAA state football finals got a bump in attendance this season, drawing 48,695 fans to the sites at Massillon and Canton last weekend, the OHSAA announced on Friday.
That number was nearly 13,000 more people than last year's attendance.
Three teams from the Midwest Athletic Conference and Western Buckeye League played in state championship games, with Marion Local winning the Division VI crown and Coldwater and Kenton losing in the Division V and IV finales, respectively.
SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — The St. Marys wrestling team captured a pair of victories over Western Buckeye League foes, defeating Kenton 70-12 and topping Shawnee, 48-30, on Thursday night at Shawnee High School.
NEW KNOXVILLE — The New Knoxville girls basketball team built up a lead early and held off the St. Henry Redskins 45-33 in a MAC contest on Thursday night at the Barn.
“We got out in front of them in the key part of the game at the beginning,” Rangers head coach Tim Hegemier said. “We started out strong and got a 10 or 12 point lead and it helps, but we have to be ready to play.”
Paige Lehman scored 21 points and had six rebounds in the game for New Knoxville.
