NEW BREMEN 64, FORT RECOVERY 55
COLDWATER — The New Bremen Cardinals survived a rough second quarter and made their free throws down the stretch to advance in the Division IV sectional tournament with a 64-55 victory over the Fort Recovery Indians at Coldwater. The Cardinals (13-8) will advance to the sectional championship on Friday at 8:00 against the Ada Bulldogs. Carson Manger led the Cardinals with 21 points and nine rebounds and Nolan Fox had 14 points.
WAPAKONETA — Wapakoneta’s numerous chances to seal the game against Minster went awry, allowing the patient Wildcats to hang around and eventually surpass the Redskins 54-49 in overtime on Saturday night.
MARIA STEIN — Derek Bornhorst of New Bremen calmly sank two free throws with 6.5 seconds left in the game to defeat the Marion Local Flyers 48-47 Friday night in a MAC contest played at the Hanger in Marion Local.
Despite separate scoring droughts of five minutes and seven and a half minutes and a 10-for-21 performance at the free throw line in the second half, the Cardinals pulled out an important MAC win with the free throws that mattered most.
DEFIANCE — The St. Marys boys basketball team gave the Western Buckeye League’s top team all it could handle, but a 30-point night from Tory Guilliam helped Defiance get past a feisty Roughrider squad, 77-71.
The Roughriders got into a shootout with the unbeaten Bulldogs and stayed with them almost shot-for-shot, hitting 10 three-pointers.
FORT RECOVERY — Too many turnovers towards the end with a precarious lead likely ended the Rangers’ hopes of a Midwest Athletic Conference title and overshadowed what was otherwise a strong performance on the road against one of the state’s best.
NEW KNOXVILLE — New Knoxville heads into one of the biggest games of its season on a winning streak spanning six weeks that has kept the Rangers' hopes of a Midwest Athletic Conference title and top-seeding in the Division IV sectional tournament going strong.
