Boys Basketball Round-Up: New Bremen wins eighth straight game

January 21, 2013

ST. MARYS — A week after hitting six 3-pointers against Perry, St. Marys senior Austin James had a record-tying Saturday night from outside against Parkway.

James tied the school record with seven 3-pointers, Garet Fledderjohann added 20 points and the Roughriders won for the first time at home this season in a 72-53 romp over Parkway on Saturday night.

James’ seven treys ties Tom Burke’s seven 3-pointers against Sidney Lehman in 2005 for the Memorial High School single-game record. James finished with a game-high 21 points.

Celina wore down the Roughriders and pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 71-52 win at a packed Celina Fieldhouse on Friday night. It’s the seventh straight win for Celina over St. Marys, a winning streak that dates back to 2005.

Girls Basketball Round-Up: Celina roars past Riders, Minster handles New Bremen

January 18, 2013

ST. MARYS — Celina quickly took any drama out of a rivalry game by scoring the game’s first 28 points in the Bulldogs’ 48-17 win over St. Marys.

“That might be one of our best starts ever,” Celina head coach Brian Stetler said. “You never know on the road how you’re going to come out against an arch-rival. Our girls stepped it up in the beginning and pretty much set the tone early. It doesn’t always happen that way, but it did tonight.”

Boys Basketball: Bath overcomes 3-pt. shooting woes to power past St. Marys

January 12, 2013

ST. MARYS — An NBA All-Star Weekend 3-point shooting contest it was not, but the Bath boys basketball team left St. Marys Memorial High School still tied for the Western Buckeye League lead.

The 19-point win was anything but routine, though. Bizarre is a more fitting description.

The Wildcats sewed up a 56-37 win over the Roughriders  early in the second half with another showcase of  energy on defense and on the offensive glass that makes Bath a league title contender this winter.
