MAC Golf Championships: Minster girls capture MAC title
CELINA — The Minster girls golf team captured the Midwest Athletic Conference championship, while the Wildcat boys finished fourth at the boys tourney at Fox’s Den in Celina on Saturday.
Minster lapped the field with a 378-stroke finish — besting second-place Versailles by 22 strokes.
NEW BREMEN — Frequent watering, soil preparation and a slight obsession are all key ingredients that help grow giant pumpkins.
Pumpkin enthusiasts and scores of visitors converged on the Crown Pavilion to catch a glimpse of the giant gourds that easily surpassed 1,000 pounds as part of the 2011 New Bremen Pumpkinfest. The two-day event featured its traditional pumpkin weigh-off as well as a regatta, a pumpkin-smashing monster truck and a bake-off.
ST. MARYS — Throngs of shoppers filed into the newest retail addition to the St. Marys business landscape Sunday.
Kohl’s opened Sunday to packed check-outs and a flurry of shoppers browsing racks and displays. The retailer, which is located adjacent to Kroger, is just the latest addition to the business lineup in the city.
“Customers seem to be turning out in droves,” store manager Rick Folz told The Evening Leader. “We opened at 9 a.m.”
CELINA — St. Marys senior tailback D.J. Manning grabbed a blue flag with ‘Go Riders’ stitched in gold lettering on it and raced down the visiting sideline at Celina Stadium, leading the entire St. Marys football team in celebration of returning bragging rights back east across Grand Lake St. Marys.
Manning ran down those sidelines all night.
