Airport Sees Increase In Traffic

NEW KNOXVILLE — The shutdown of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which has halted construction projects across the nation, is having little impact on a local airport.

On Tuesday, the FAA shutdown forced the entity to furlough 4,000 workers and suspend $2.5 billion in airport construction linked to federal grants. While the Neil Armstrong Airport in New Knoxville receives federal grants from the FAA, the shutdown is not currently impacting the facility.

Minster loses first of ACME state tourney, plays Friday night

CELINA — Throughout its long high school and ACME tournament runs, the Minster  baseball team has relied on its pitching and defense to carry it.

Both deserted the Wildcats on Wednesday night, as Bowling Green scored six runs on four Minster errors to defeat the Wildcats, 6-2,  in the winners bracket semifinal of the 2011 ACME State Tournament held at Montgomery Field in Celina.

Minster now must work its way through the loser’s bracket with three straight wins in two days if it wants to earn an ACME state title.

Troupe To Take Stage

ST. MARYS — A group of teens will take the stage in August, performing a musical never seen before in St. Marys.

The show, “13! The Musical,” tracks the transition period of a young Jewish boy who is forced to move from New York City to Appleton, Ind., after his parents’ divorce.

“It’s about him trying to start at a new school, and he still has his Bar Mitzvah,” Grand Lake Theatrix founder Vickie Shurelds said.

Norman Henry Schrolucke, 90

Norman Henry Schrolucke, 90, formerly of 10472 Plattner Pike, New Knoxville, died on Wednesday evening, July 27, 2011, at the St. Marys Living Center.

He was born on Feb. 7, 1921, in Van Buren Township, the son of Henry and Louise (Henschen) Schrolucke.

On July 4, 1943, he married LaRue Eversman, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 19, 1990.

Cooling Center Open

Wine Faces More Charges

ST. MARYS — A St. Marys optometrist who already faces a rape charge was indicted on six more sex crimes, including two rape charges.

Douglas J. Wine, 52, 227 Candlewood Place, was arrested Wednesday after he was indicted on two counts each of rape, first-degree felonies, gross sexual imposition, third-degree felonies, and sexual battery, third-degree felonies. Wine was booked into the Auglaize County Jail Wednesday and was released on an own recognizance bond.

Celina Man Arrested For Allegedly Cooking Meth

CELINA — A Mercer County man was arrested for allegedly operating a meth lab.

According to a news release issued by Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey, Joseph C. Sullivan, 41, 1874 Schroeder Road, Celina, was arrested for allegedly manufacturing methamphetamine.  Indiana authorities also have an outstanding warrant for Sullivan for sale of methamphetamine.

Renee Marie Muhlenkamp, 41

Renee Marie Muhlenkamp, 41, of 1910 Barnsbury Court, Celina, died at 7:55 p.m. Saturday, July 23, 2011, at her residence.

She was born on Aug. 15, 1969, in Knob Noster, Mo., to Thomas and Ruth (Reitz) Muhlenkamp of Coldwater.

She is survived by her special friend, Denise Warnecke of Celina; two brothers; a sister; eight nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina, with the Rev. Kenneth Alt officiating. Private family interment will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery.
