Marlene F. Liening, 72, of 12570 State Route 362, died at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
She was born on June 28, 1939, in Minster, to Herman and Philomena (Ruhenkamp) Oldiges, and they preceded her in death.
On June 23, 1962, in Minster, she married Thomas Liening, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 1979.
Ruberta C. Hemmert, 88, of rural Botkins, died at 4:43 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, at the St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
She was born on Jan. 2, 1924, in Rhine, to Peter and Alvina (Greve) Steinke, and they preceded her in death.
On June 10, 1943, she married Elmo Edward Hemmert, and he survives.
Paul E. Cales, 71, of 11190 Schroeder Road, Lot 13, St. Marys, died at 6:56 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
Funeral arrangements are being completed with the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St. Marys.
NEW KNOXVILLE — Two days after President Barack Obama gave his State of the Union address, mayors from the Golden Triangle met in New Knoxville on Thursday to give their summation of 2011 and outlook for 2012.
Minster Mayor Dennis Kitzmiller took to the podium first and gave a recap on his village’s activities in 2011. Spending and income tax revenue dominated his address.
CELINA — A national organization is actively seeking volunteers to help track weather in Auglaize and Mercer counties.
The Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network (CoCoRaHS) is a “community-based network that incorporates training and education on tracking rain and snowfall,” according to the organization’s website. Presenters Ashley Novak and Julie Reed of the National Weather Service spoke with area residents Wednesday night at Wright State University Lake Campus about how to get involved and some techniques to collecting weather data.
CELINA — A newly formed Flotilla hosted an open house Wednesday night to inform area residents about how they could get involved and to discuss the group’s mission.
The Coast Guard Auxiliary District 8 Eastern Region, Division 6, Flotilla 12 held its chartering ceremony last week and is now working to inform the community about opportunities the Coast Guard Auxiliary offers. Flotilla Commander Larry Baker said Coast Guard Auxiliary members are all volunteers.
ST. MARYS — Local students received a lesson in safety as part of an official’s visit to their school on Wednesday.
“Magic Tom” Rozoff and St. Marys Ptl. Kevin Draiss presented the Officer Phil and PALS program at St. Marys Intermediate School on Wednesday.
“The Officer Phil program is sponsored by the St. Marys Police Department and is paid for by local businesses,” Rozoff told The Evening Leader. “Each student will get a safety booklet, and it mentions the local businesses.”
Wilbur Warner, 90, of St. Marys, died on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys. Arrangements are being completed with the Miller Funeral Homes in St. Marys.
William H. D’Addurno, 61, of 615 N. Vine St., St. Marys, died at 9:06 a.m. Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, in the emergency department of Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
He was born on April 2, 1950, in Trenton, N.J., to William and Elsie (Blom) D’Addurno, and they preceded him in death.
On Sept. 18, 1998, in Fort Wayne, Ind., he married Norma Jean Hall, and she survives.
He is also survived by a daughter, Jessica D’Addurno of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a sister.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
Betty A. Bowersock, 84, of 1321 Celina Road, St. Marys, died on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at her residence.
She was born on Jan. 17, 1928, in St. Marys, to Ralph and Mary (Ruperd) McElroy, and they preceded her in death.
On Jan. 21, 1949, in Celina, she married Norman R. Bowersock, and he preceded her in death on March 23, 2007.
