Board Tours District

January 24, 2012

ST. MARYS — Local board members participated in an annual districtwide tour Monday morning.

Members of the St. Marys Board of Education, Lisa Tobin, Aaron Braun, Ralph Wiley, Brian Little and Ronda Shelby,  walked through the new high school-middle school complex, Dennings Vocational Building, St. Marys Primary School and St. Marys Intermediate School, as part of an annual board trip to see what their administration is requesting — which was submitted in December.

Evelyn E. Grimes, 88

Evelyn E. Grimes, 88, of 106 W. Spring St., New Knoxville, died at 12:42 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, at the St. Marys Living Center, following a sudden illness.

She was born on Nov. 3, 1923, in New Knoxville, the daughter of William and Meta Rose (Hartung) Harmeyer, and they preceded her in death.

On Nov. 2, 1941, she married Dales Grimes Sr., and he survives in New Knoxville.

Glenn A. Figley, 90

Glenn A. Figley, 90, of Otterbein St. Marys, died at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012.

He was born on Dec. 19, 1921, in St. Marys, to Miles and Edna (Miller) Figley, and they preceded him in death.

On June 29, 1948, he married Ruth Evelyn Hight, and she survives him.

He is also survived by his children, Kim Figley of Ohio City, Kirk (Peg) Figley of Lobelville, Tenn., Mindy (Bruce) Hays of Celina and Kollin Figley of Convoy; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Helen Freeman and June Hanni of Celina.

Marilyn I. Smith, 80

Marilyn I. Smith, 80, of Celina, died on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at Mercer Community Hospital in Coldwater.

She was born on Feb. 8, 1931, in Coldwater, to Clarence and Gladys (Ellis) Crouch, and they preceded her in death.

She is survived by four sons, Paul W. Legg of Grover Hill, Ricky (Terry) Legg of Celina, Johnny Legg of Celina and Anthony M. Smith of Celina; two daughters, Vicky (Kenneth) Jones of Mendon and Vivian I. “Ivy” (Duane) Jutte of Mendon; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren.

Ursula M. Boise, 93

Ursula M. Boise, 93, of West Liberty, died on Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, at her residence.

She was born on Oct. 19, 1918, in Dayton, to Jesse C. and Lura E. (Moore) Poor, and they preceded her in death.

On Oct. 19, 1941, she married Dr. John F. Boise, and he preceded her in death on July 16, 1997.

She is survived by two sons, Rex Owen Boise of West Liberty and Bruce Allen Boise of Key West, Fla.; a brother; a sister; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law.

Driver Killed In Traffic Crash

CELINA — Deputies in Mercer County are investigating the county's first fatality of 2012.

In a news release, Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey said his office is investigating a single-vehicle, fatal crash that occurred on Mercer-Darke County Line Road, just west of Cochran Road. At approximately 5:14 a.m. Monday, the Darke County Sheriff’s Office notified Mercer County Central Dispatch of a motor vehicle crash on the Mercer-Darke County Line Road. After Darke County deputies arrived, it was determined the crash occurred in Mercer County.

Top-ranked Ottoville at Minster GBB rescheduled for Feb. 18

The Ottoville at Minster girls basketball game, which was postponed on Saturday, has been rescheduled for Saturday, Feb. 18 at 1 p.m.

Ottoville is the No. 1 -ranked team in the state of Ohio in Division IV.

JACKSON CENTER 64, NEW BREMEN 55

JACKSON CENTER — The New Bremen boys basketball team took too long to match stride with unbeaten Jackson Center.

A 17-1 Tiger run that started late in the first quarter and lasted into the second quarter proved to be a key stretch for Jackson Center in a 64-55 win over New Bremen on Saturday night in front of a packed house at Jackson Center.

NEW KNOXVILLE 57, JACKSON CENTER 42

JACKSON CENTER —  New Knoxville’s balanced scoring proved to be more potent than the one-woman show that was Jackson Center’s Brooke Richard.

A trio of Rangers scored in double figures in New Knoxville’s 57-42 win over Jackson Center on Saturday afternoon.

Paige Lehman led the way with 18 points, Meg Reineke added 13 points and Haley Horstman had 12 points in the win.

Patricia Winget, 61

January 23, 2012

Patricia Winget, 61, of Celina, died on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.

She was born on Jan. 12, 1951, in Coldwater, to Jasephine McEvoy and Harry Joseph, and they preceded her in death.

On Sept. 28, 1968, she married William G. Winget, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 24, 2008.

She is survived by three sons, William (Angel) Winget of Celina, Brian P. Winget of Celina and Dustin J. Winget of Celina; three sisters; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
