Alma Anna (Feil) Camper, 103, of Wapakoneta, died at 7:45 a.m. Friday, March 16, 2012, at The Gardens, Wapakoneta.
She was born on April 9, 1908, in Auglaize County, to William and Anna (Aufderhaar) Feil, and they preceded her in death.
On Dec. 26, 1926, she married Floyd (Sam) Camper, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 23, 1986.
She is survived by two sons, Robert F. (Joann) and William J.; two daughters, Sharon A. Campbell and Susan K. (Richard) Feil; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
ST. MARYS — Despite a rain delay, local high school students and a handful of adults jumped into a pond to raise money for cancer research.
On Sunday afternoon, 42 students and nine celebrity plungers leaped or ran into what was optimistically estimated to be 65-degree weather, as part of the seventh-annual Memorial High School Relay for Life Polar Plunge.
ST. MARYS — With a local school switching its scheduling system, administrators are taking steps to implement the change for the 2012-13 school year.
St. Marys Memorial High School will be on the trimester system next school year, and school administrators are currently working on the scheduling aspect of the new system.
“We will have five academic periods, which are 63-minutes long,” Memorial High School Principal Dave Lewis said. “We will still have a four-minute passing time.”
The Auglaize County Special Olympics basketball team has a 13-0 record and is headed to the state tournament on March 30.

“The whole team showed tremendous effort to accomplish this feat,” Conner said. “Our summer games will be starting soon. We look forward to seeing all the athletes doing their best competing for the gold, silver and bronze medals.”

“Leader Look Back,” is a collection of stories and headlines from 75, 50 and 25 years ago this week. This week’s edition examines stories from March 12 to March 19, 1937, 1962 and 1987.
75 years ago: Forty-eight rabbits were sent to St. Marys and released on a farm north of the city by the state conservation department. The rabbits were brought in from Missouri.
Joseph N. Wright claimed he was robbed of $569.38 while walking across from East School. He said the money was taken by two men while a third waited in a car.
NEW BREMEN — A local school district is taking strides to combat a problem in schools by tearing down a wall of verbal bullying.
Throughout the week, students at New Bremen Elementary and Middle School viewed a wall of 100 hurtful words that was torn down little by little each day. Elementary/Middle School Guidance Counselor Julie Lee said she was hoping to show the students how powerful their words are.
CELINA — Representatives from area businesses, organizations, cities and more gathered at a local college campus as part of the campus’ second regional summit on Friday.
Wright State University Lake Campus on Friday held its second Lake Campus Regional Summit — a gathering that has become an annual event at the school’s main campus in Dayton and one that was expanded to the local campus in 2011.
Marjorie Maxine (Fogt) Smallwood, 82, of Wapakoneta, died at 9:10 a.m. Friday, March 16, 2012, at her residence.
She was born on April 7, 1929, in St. Marys, the daughter of Clarence and Eva (Phillips) Fogt, who preceded her in death. On Oct. 10, 1948, she married Ray M. Smallwood, and he survives.
She is also survived by two daughters, Barbara Ann (Michael A.) Selby of Moulton and Betty June Smallwood of Ludlow Falls; four grandsons; six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister.
Louis W. Hartings, 91, formerly of State Route 119, Minster, died at 3:45 a.m. Friday, March 16, 2012, at Elmwood of New Bremen, where he had been a resident for 1 1/2 years.
He was born on March 4, 1921, in Chickasaw, to Albert and Anna (Homan) Hartings and was married on Nov. 22, 1945, in Minster, to Irene Meyer; she died on July 15, 2006.
He is survived by one brother; two sisters.
He was preceded in death by a brother and his wife; a sister in-law; a brother in-law.
Louis served in the Army during World War II in Europe.
