ST. MARYS — Members of a local committee approved one set of rules and are researching another after a meeting Tuesday evening.
The members of the St. Marys Board of Education Policy and Program Committee approved policy regarding athletics to be recommended to the full board. Board members questioned an item not in the appeals section of the administrative guidelines they were presented with regarding athletics, and administrators will be undergoing research to find out what other school districts do before St. Marys makes a decision.
LIMA — The case involving a St. Marys optometrist is now in the hands of judges from the Third District Court of Appeals.
Attorneys on both sides argued their stances during oral arguments in the appeal case of Douglas J. Wine Tuesday morning. Wine was convicted last year of gross sexual imposition following a jury trial. Jurors found Wine not guilty of rape and sexual battery. He was sentenced to 15 months in prison on the fourth-degree felony charge. He faced a maximum of 18 months in prison.
Ardath R. Rohm 86, of Wapakoneta, died at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Auglaize Acres.
She was born on Oct. 20, 1925, in Dunbar, Pa., to Charles H. and Gypsey Moyer, and they preceded her in death.
In 1948, she married Ervin “Ed” Rohm, and he survives in Wapakoneta.
Elmer Frederick Neumeier, 94, was welcomed by the Lord with “Come in my good and faithful servant” at 10:15 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2012, with his wife and family at his side as he departed.
Elmer was born on July 8, 1917, in Dayton, to Raymond Frederick and May (Caldwell) Neumeier, and they preceded him in death when he was young, leaving him orphaned at age 5. He was raised by his grandparents, Andrew and Katherine (Fisher) Neumeier, of Wapakoneta.
Victor W. Schneider, 95, a resident of Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community, formerly of Dayton, died at 4:05 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Otterbein St. Marys.
He was born on May 7, 1917, in New Bremen, the son of Otto and Alma (Doenges) Schneider, and they preceded him in death.
On July 12, 1944, he married Hannah Shewmon, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 28, 2009.
Harold A. Engel, 82, of Wapakoneta, died at 11:20 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2012, at the Wapakoneta Manor.
He was born on Feb. 4, 1930, the son of Adrian and Pearl (Elmers) Engel, and they preceded him in death.
On Aug. 15, 1959, he married Wanda Krites, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 3, 1980.
CELINA — The Celina Police Department has filed charges on a suspect in connection with the theft of credit cards, and the attempted use of those cards at the Celina Wal-Mart.
The incident allegedly took place April 30. At the time of the attempted use of the credit cards, security cameras at Wal-Mart captured images of the suspect at the register and as the suspect left the store.
MINSTER — After eight months of preparation and trials, three Minster Rocket Club teams had their chance to shine last weekend at the Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC) near Washington, D.C., and one team earned a spot in the top 25 in the nation.
ST. MARYS — The mauling of a city meter reader last month prompted the safety-service director to issue a stern warning to irresponsible dog owners in St. Marys.
On April 30, a meter reader was attacked while on his route on Front Street by a dog running at large. Safety-Service Director Jason Little briefed members of St. Marys City Council on the incident during Monday night’s meeting.
William R. “Bill” Yahl, 79, of Botkins, died at 4:17 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on Sept. 17, 1932, in St. Marys, the son of Joseph and Martha (Greve) Yahl, and they preceded him in death.
On Jan. 5, 1957, he married Mary K. Brown, and she survives.
