Karl A. Willrath, 33, formerly of Celina, died on Friday, Aug. 19, 2011, at his residence in Bradford.
He was born on July 22, 1978, in Frankfurt, Germany, to Wayne E. and Marsha A. (Colson) Willrath, and they survive him in Celina.
He is also survived by 12 aunts and uncles; numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at W.H. Dick and Sons - Hellwarth Funeral Home in Celina, with the Rev. Bob Sweeney officiating. Burial will be held in Buck Cemetery in Celina.
Frederick R. Gilleo, 80, of Oakland, Mich., died on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at his daughter’s residence in Celina.
He was born on Jan. 2, 1931, in Detroit, Mich., to Glen and Anna (Larkin) Gilleo, and they preceded him in death.
In 1984, he married Nancy Podeski, and she preceded him in death in October 2009.
He is survived by four children, Pam (Jerry) Fleck of Celina, Doug (Cindy) Gilleo of Celina, Willis Gilleo of Celina and Gene (Lisa) Gilleo of Celina; two sisters; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
Emily Jean McCune, 79, of rural Mendon, died at 3:20 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at the Golden Valley Living Center in St. Marys, with her family by her side.
She was born on Sept. 22, 1931, in her lifelong residence in Auglaize County, the daughter of Merle and Catherine S. (Brodbeck) Shimp, and they preceded her in death.
On June 21, 1951, she married Harold E. McCune, and he survives her. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
NEW BREMEN — Cars of all makes, models and colors lined the lots along Lock One in New Bremen as part of an annual show.
The Bremenfest Muscle and Classic Car Show went on for its fourth year this weekend, netting cars from all over the area.
“We’ve got probably a four or five county area here — from Mercer County, Allen County and of course Auglaize,” Bremenfest Committee member Randy Hirschfeld said. “We’ve got some nice locals. It’s a nice variety of cars.”
NEW BREMEN — Almost 30 teams competed in the Bremenfest Annual Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, all vying for the top spots and bragging rights for the best chili in New Bremen.
Participants lined the perimeter of the Crown Pavilion in New Bremen since Saturday morning preparing 28 pots of chili that would be judged on by festival-goers and by Bremenfest judges.
Sisters Steph Heitkamp and Sheila Wenning, both of New Bremen, dressed up as Stepford wives for their “perfect Stepford chili.”

Boys Golf: Minster 2nd, St. Marys 8th at Celina Invitational
CELINA — Area high school golfers took aim on a sunsplashed day good for scoring at the 25-team Celina Invitational at the Fox’s Den on Friday.
The Minster boys golf team finished second (315), St. Marys took eighth (330), Celina finished 14th (342) and Wapakoneta took 16th (344).
Everyone was chasing Napoleon, which distanced itself from second-place Minster with a 304 team score. Napoleon was keyed by medalist Brandon Lambert, who fired a five-under 67.
Urbana outscored St. Marys 28-10 in three quarters of football in the Chicken Bowl scrimmage at Skip Baughman Stadium on Friday night.
St. Marys scored the game’s first 10 points.
St. Marys struck first in the scrimmage with a long D.J. Manning run. Manning scampered 69 yards down to the Urbana two yard line, punching it in on the next play for the two-yard score with 10:18 left in the first quarter.
St. Marys added a Jarret Taylor field goal from about 25 yards out to make it 10-0.
ST. MARYS — A local business recently switched locations, moving a few blocks down the road.
Curves, which was formerly located behind Ace Hardware, opened its new location in the former St. Marys Nutritional Foods Store on State Route 703 on Aug. 1.
“A lot of it was based on our visibility,” St. Marys Curves Owner Rebecca Vordermark said. “I think it’s brighter — there are nice windows. We didn’t have any windows in our old location.”
ST. MARYS — Ginny Maurer, of Kettlersville, has always loved being around children and began babysitting as soon as she was old enough. She began teaching girls baton twirling as a junior in high school.
“I started teaching some of the neighbor girls when I was a junior,” Maurer said. “That went on and more girls started asking me to teach them baton twirling. When I was a senior, I started my actual first corps, the Jenn-Ettes. They were named after Fort Jennings, which was my hometown.”
ST. MARYS — For the second month in a row, income tax collections for the city of St. Marys have sagged behind 2010 numbers.
In July, the city collected $261,572.49 — down from the $306,857.68 it netted in 2010. Despite the decrease, the city still outpaced 2009’s figure, which was $258,111.76.
A poor July also put the city behind last year’s overall number. To date, the city netted $2.239 million, while last year it took in $2.283 million during the same time period. In 2009, the city took in $2.157 million during the same time period.
