Girls Soccer: St. Marys 4, Fort Jennings 1
The Roughriders tuned up for Thursday’s WBL showdown against Shawnee with a 4-1 win over 10-win Fort Jennings on Monday.
Fort Jennings had been a thorn in the side of the Roughriders the past few seasons, and Paul Dingledine saw the Musketeers as a good final non-league challenge.
ST. MARYS — A city councilor Monday night said he believes some dog owners in St. Marys are being irresponsible with their pets.
Bill Slemmons, the 2nd Ward Councilor for the city of St. Marys, said he has noticed more pit bulls and rottweilers running at-large. Slemmons said a resident outside his house was cornered by three dogs.
“The patrolman came down,” Slemmons said. “There’s a lot of (dogs) running around.”

At Lima Senior
The St. Marys volleyball team opens its postseason against Defiance on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. at Lima Senior High School and the winner of that match will play the winner of the Bath-Wapakoneta match (7:15 p.m. on Wednesday) on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 7:15 p.m.
The top of the bracket at Lima Senior will match up Celina and Shawnee at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18, followed by Elida vs. Van Wert at 7:15 p.m. The winners of those two matches play on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 6 p.m.
M. Marjorie Martin, 86, of 14256 River Road, St. Marys, died at 12:05 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at Celina Manor Nursing Home.
She was born on Dec. 11, 1924, in St. Marys, to Merrill “Bill” and Ruth (Smith) Miller, and they preceded her in death.
“Al” Albert J. Barhorst, 85, of North Frankfort Street, Minster, passed away on Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, of natural causes at the Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
He was born on July 21, 1926, in Fort Loramie, to Albert H. and Anna (Barlage) Barhorst, and they preceded him in death.
On Nov. 26, 1949, at St. Augustine Church in Minster, he married Martha (Bornhorst) Barhorst, and she preceded him in death on June 18, 2010.
Robert C. M. Tittle, 63, of Celina, died on Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at his residence.
Arrangements are being completed with the Miller Funeral Homes in St. Marys.
Carl Dennis Ransbottom, 73, of 1117 Kingswood Court, Celina, died at 3:27 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, at the Gardens in Celina.
He was born on Nov. 26, 1937, in Celina, to Clifford M. and Kathlene E. (Chapman) Ransbottom, and they preceded him in death.
He is survived by his children, Lori Smith, David Ransbottom and Chris Ransbottom, all of Columbus, and Renee Ransbottom of Los Angeles, Calif.; a sister.
Volleyball: New Knoxville 3, Houston 0
NEW KNOXVILLE – The New Knoxville volleyball team didn’t let up in anything Saturday as they defeated the Houston Wildcats in a non-league match at New Knoxville 25-9, 25-17 and 25-8.
“I was happy with the girls that they didn’t let up,” Rangers head coach Jill Roode said. “They didn’t stop playing hard. It is easy for them not to play up to their potential when they play non-league games.”
Roger Lee Chapman, 63, of 7090 Fleetfoot Road, Celina, died at 7:45 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, at his residence.
He was born on Dec. 31, 1947, in Athens, to Donald W. and Mae B. (Blankenship) Chapman, and they preceded him in death.
On April 2, 1966, he married Paula Muter, and she survives him in Celina.
He is also survived by his sons, Kelly (Julie) Chapman and Nathan (Stephanie) Chapman; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
