OGT Results Similar

ST. MARYS — A local school recently received its results on how its students performed on a state-mandated test.

Back in March, sophomores at St. Marys Memorial High School took the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT), and the students scored similar to results in the past. Of the students who took the test who were at or above the level of proficient, the results were the following: 91 percent for reading, 90 percent for math, 87 percent for writing, 83 percent for science and 85 percent for social studies.

Edward D. Cisco, 63

Edward D. Cisco, 63, of Celina, died at 3:58 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2012, at his residence.

He was born on June 11, 1949, in Celina, to James Cisco and Dorothy Zeck, and they preceded him in death.

On Nov. 17, 1989, he married Karen Evans, and she survives him in Celina.

50 Years Ago This Week – 1962

In American Legion baseball this week in 1962, the St. Marys squad played “up” against the St. Marys Lakers, and in a battle which not many expected them to stand a chance; they came away with the 9-8 victory.  

The Legion squad led 1-0 after an inning, but found themselves down 6-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth frame.  They plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but allowed two more in the seventh to trail 8-3.  

Raymond Joseph Dingledine Sr., 88

Raymond Joseph Dingledine Sr., 88, a World War II Marine Corps sergeant and Goodyear engineer, passed away at 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at Tabitha Health Care Services in Lincoln, Neb., after a several month struggle with cancer.

He was born on Dec. 17, 1923, in St. Marys, to Charles Wesley and Marie (Pohlabel) Dingledine, and they preceded him in death.

ACME Baseball: Wapak rallies past St. Marys ACME team, 5-4

WAPAKONETA — What a difference a week makes.

Seven days ago, the Wapakoneta ACME baseball team sent rival St. Marys home with its tail between its legs thanks to a 17-0 shellacking at K.C. Geiger Park.

Thursday at Wapakoneta High School, St. Marys jumped all over Wapak starting pitcher Andrew Hines for four first-inning runs.

But Hines settled down and Wapakoneta chipped away at the St. Marys lead to pull out a 5-4 win.

Wapak improved to 5-0 on the season.  St. Marys is 3-4.

Visitors Flock To Picnic

ST. MARYS — The smell of hamburgers and brats filled the air in Memorial Park Thursday as hungry visitors lined up to get their hands on the delectable delights as part of an annual fundraiser.

The Sister Cities Youth Delegation to Japan served up lunch in the park to help raise money for its trip to Awaji City, Japan. Each year, a delegation from St. Marys visits the city’s sister city as part of a youth exchange program.

BASEBALL: Kill pitches scoreless 9th in Grand Lake Mariners win

CELINA — A pair of five-run innings by the Grand Lake Mariners allowed them to get by the Cincinnati Steam 11-5 Wednesday in a Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League contest at Jim Hoess Field in Celina.

Trevor Kill, a St. Marys Memorial grad and Southeast Missouri pitcher, worked a scoreless ninth inning with a strikeout to close out the win for Grand Lake.

With a 1-0 lead going into the third inning the Mariners batted around for the first time on the night, scoring five runs. Ryan Blanchard delivered the big blow with a three-run home run.

Cards Soar On OGTs

NEW BREMEN — Eighty-eight percent of New Bremen High School sophomores and 94 percent of juniors passed all five sections of the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT) High School Principal Frank Borchers announced Wednesday night at the Board of Education meeting.

“They did real well again,” Borchers said in his report to board members. “The passing percentages were all in the 90s.”

ST. MARYS — A local Memorial High School student was selected to be a part of an online special that is set to air later this summer.

Ariel Dodson, 17, will be a senior at Memorial High School this year, and she has been putting up videos on YouTube of her playing bass guitar. She was discovered by VEVO, a music video website. Representatives from VEVO recently flew in to her St. Marys home for its program “You Play Like a Girl.”

Ella Adeline Wilder, stillborn, died at 3:51 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne, Ind.

She was born on June 12, in Fort Wayne, Ind., to Marta (Donate-McClure) and Lucas Wilder, and they survive in Van Wert.
