Ernest “Ernie” B. Phlipot, 82, of New Bremen, died at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
He was born on May 5, 1930, in Newport, the son of Henry and Lena (Francis) Phlipot, and they preceded him in death.
On Sept. 27, 1950, he married Jeannette Budde, and she preceded him in death on June 16, 2004. He then married Betty Donnerberg Bergman on Feb. 10, 2007, and she preceded him in death on July 24, 2009.
CELINA — A boat found adrift on Grand Lake St. Marys Tuesday night sparked a search for a missing person that continued this morning.
Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Watercraft spokesperson John Wisse said officials received a report early Tuesday evening that an officer found a vacant boat adrift on the lake. Evidence found on the boat led to a search for a missing person — a 57-year-old male who was reportedly fishing on the 22-foot pontoon boat earlier in the day.
ST. MARYS — A Florida man faces a minor misdemeanor charge as the result of allegedly shooting a dog as it became aggressive, dumping its body into Grand Lake St. Marys and failing to notify the proper authorities.
The St. Marys’ ACME baseball team’s patient approach paid dividends late in its 11-8 comeback win over Elida on Monday night at K.C. Geiger Park.
St. Marys (5-5) rallied back from a six-run deficit with a nine-run bottom of the sixth inning by getting into Elida’s bullpen.
St. Marys worked the count and got Elida’s effective starter out of the game after four-plus innings.

H. Phil McKibans, 85, of New Bremen, died at 1:28 a.m. Monday, June 18, 2012, at his residence.
He was born on March 28, 1927, in Akron, the son of Howard McKibans and Lillian Trottman McKibans Loving and stepfather Lawrence Loving.
On May 14, 1949, he married Dorothy E. Milroy, and she survives in New Bremen.
Joseph D. Henne, 99, of Cridersville, died at 5:12 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012, at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
He was born on April 23, 1913, in Salem Township, near Kossuth, the son of Daniel and Ethel Richardson Henne, and they preceded him in death.
On July 31, 1937, he married Evelyn L. Rasneor, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 2, 2006.
Gale E. Fry, 70, of Wapakoneta, died at 8:06 a.m. Monday, June 18, 2012, at the Auglaize Acres.
He was born on July 9, 1941, the son of Rex and Iola (Cox) Fry, and they preceded him in death.
He was married to Betty Fry, and she preceded him in death.
He is survived by a sister, Penny (Kelley) McGlinch of New Bremen; six stepchildren, Robin (Ralph) Nelms, Bill (Vickie) Coil, John (Sally) Coil, Patti (Alan) Rodabaugh, Jammie (Merita) Roop and Shawn Roop; an aunt, Joann Stinebaugh of Wapakoneta.
Gary A. Wehnes, 68, of St. Marys, died at 9:25 a.m. Monday, June 18, 2012, at his residence.
He was born on Feb. 5, 1944, in Auglaize County, to Russell and Margaret (McDermitt) Wehnes.
He is survived by a son, Michael (Katherine) Wehnes of St. Marys; a daughter, Christina (Mark) Miley of Aurora; a brother; four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother; a sister.
He was a veteran of the Marine Corps, having served during the Vietnam era.
