Cyrus “Jimmy” Frey, 55, of St. Marys, was found dead on Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, near Grand Lake St. Marys.
He was born on Jan. 26, 1956, in St. Marys, the son of John and Eleanor (Walker) Frey, and they preceded him in death.
He is survived by three sons, Dustin (Felissa Contreras) Frey of St. Marys, Jeremy Frey of St. Marys and Justin (Melissa Graves) Frey of St. Marys; his siblings, Mike (Deb) Frey of St. Marys, John (Barb) Frey Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Jane (Ron) Paulus of Pasadena, Texas; two grandchildren, Kaleb and Emma.
Anita L. Rogers, 36, of Wapakoneta, died at 8:10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, at Wapakoneta Manor.
She was born in Lima, the daughter of Billy and Carol (Meckstroth) Rogers, and her mother survives in Wapakoneta. Her father preceded her in death.
ST. MARYS — A local church gave thanks Sunday morning in celebration of finding a permanent home.
New Community Church, now located at 1025 Greenville Road, St. Marys, recently opened its doors in a new location after 11 years without a permanent building.
“We’ve come a long way,” the Rev. Tom Schwind said to the congregation at Sunday morning’s open house. “We’ve stood together, we’ve worshiped together and now we’re ready to go out (to the community).”

WAPAKONETA -- Adam Bertke learned the hard way about letting an interception snowball 12 weeks ago.
Bertke threw three costly interceptions in the second half of the Flyers Week 1 13-7 overtime loss to Lima Shawnee. Marion Local head coach Tim Goodwin even pulled Bertke from that game.
That benching and that lesson carried over.
WAPAKONETA -- Forced to abandon its usually-reliable running game against a Marion Local opponent that is no stranger to late November playoff football, the Minster Wildcats' postseason run came to an end in the Division VI regional title game for the second straight season.
Marion Local dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball and used a touchdown on the final play of the first half as a springboard to a 28-0 win over Minster on Saturday night at Harmon Field in Wapakoneta.

FINDLAY -- Delphos St. John's intercepted a Leipsic pass as it was driving towards a potentially tying score late and the Blue Jays staved off Leipsic 28-20 in the Division VI Region 22 championship game at Donnell Stadium on Saturday night.
DSJ quarterback Mark Boggs threw for 157 yards and two touchdowns

Elbert L. Baird, 88, of 11309 Bobwhite Lane, St. Marys, died at 12:39 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
He was born on Jan. 25, 1923, in Old Washington, to Charles M. and Vera A. (Boyd) Baird, and they preceded him in death.
He is survived by two stepsons, James J. Hammann of Iowa Falls, Iowa, and Joseph P. Hammann of Tipp City; two nephews, Charles (JoAnn) Baird of Old Washington and Mervin (Barbara) Baird of Old Washington; numerous great-nephews and great-nieces.
Eileen M. Bortner, 73, died on Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, at her home in Auburn.
She was born on March 14, 1938, in New Bremen, to Adrian and Helen (Brewer) Greber, and they preceded her in death.
On June 24, 1989, in Churubusco, she married Jack W. Bortner, and he survives in Auburn.
ST. MARYS — A St. Marys man convicted of murder has filed an appeal in his case.
Gordon W. Diggle III, who was convicted in April of murdering Steven Casad on Sept. 8, 2010, has appealed his conviction to the Third District Court of Appeals in Lima. Diggle was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison on murder, felonious assault and aggravated robbery charges.
According to online court documents, merit briefs on behalf of Diggle were due to the court on Tuesday. A date for oral arguments in front of the panel of judges has yet to be set.
