October 5, 2012

Edwin E. Springer, 65, of Wapakoneta, died at 2:44 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at his residence, surrounded by his family. 

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Wapakoneta, where arrangements are incomplete.

Brenda K. Fischer, 59, of St. Marys, died on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at her residence.

Arrangements are being completed with the Miller Funeral Homes in St. Marys.

CROSS COUNTRY: Area teams tune up at Coldwater

COLDWATER — The Coldwater Lion’s Club cross country meet is a test run for the Midwest Athletic Conference meet for the conference’s teams. For other area squads the meet one of the final tune-ups before their respective league meets against one of the best area fields.

Van Wert’s boys and Coldwater’s girls teams both edged out Minster for team wins on Thursday evening.

GOLF: Area golfers bow out at district tournaments

DIVISION II AT SYCAMORE SPRINGS

St. Marys Carter Bowman's strong sophomore season came to an end after he shot an 81 at the Division II district meet at Sycamore Springs on Thursday.

Bowman advanced from the Country Acres sectional a week ago.

Wauseon won the district title to advance to state with a team score of 335.  Bryan also advanced with a 337 score after winning a tiebreaker with Napoleon and Port Clinton.

The Division II state meet will be held on the Scarlet and Gray Courses in Columbus.

Shelby Co. Pair Indicted

SIDNEY — A Shelby County grand jury has indicted two officials with the Shelby County Humane Society on alleged theft charges that included using the organization’s funds to pay for personal items.

In a news release issued on Thursday, Shelby County Sheriff John Lenhart announced the indictments against Mike Lescowitch, president of the Shelby County Humane Society, and Angela Bray, treasurer for the organization. Lescowitch was indicted on one count of theft in office, a fourth-degree felony, and Bray faces one count of theft, a fifth-degree felony.

NEW KNOXVILLE — The Rangers made quick work of the Fort Recovery Indians, 25-20, 25-17, 25-17, in Midwest Athletic Conference action at The Barn on Thursday.

Madison Lammers led New Knoxville with seven kills. Taylor Niemeyer and Meg Reineke each added six kills.

Kalyn Schroer and Abby Rohrbach each had three aces.

New Knoxville improved to 14-5 and 6-2 in the MAC.

Evelyn B. Shellabarger, 86

Evelyn B. Shellabarger, 86, of Celina, died on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at the Gardens of Celina.

She was born on Jan. 19, 1926, in Mercer County, to Harry O. Wagner and Jennie Woods, and they preceded her in death.

On June 2, 1951, she married Loyell R. Shellabarger, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 2009.

She is survived by two sons, Curt (Deb) Shellabarger of Celina and Todd (Mary) Shellabarger of St. Marys; a sister, Mary Harner of Celina; four grandchildren.

Gertrude E. Ripploh, 90

Gertrude E. Ripploh, 90, of Minster, died at 8:10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Minster.

She was born on Sept. 20, 1922, in Colifax, Ill., to Richard and Stella (Fitzpatrick) Kelley, and they preceded her in death.

She married her first husband Deidrich in 1943, and he preceded her in death in 1958. She married her second husband William A. Ripploh on Jan. 2, 1961, in St. Marys, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 7, 2011.

Dorothy E. Wolf, 101

Dorothy E. Wolf, 101, of Minster, died at 12:10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at Heritage Manor Nursing Center.  

She was born on May 16, 1911, in Fort Loramie, to Frank and Emma (Ernst) Boerger, and they preceded her in death.

On Feb. 3, 1937, she married Albert H. Wolf, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 2, 1997.

Wapak Probes Student's Threat

WAPAKONETA — Wapakoneta Police Department officers are investigating a call reporting a threatening comment made by a 15-year-old student to another student while being transported home Wednesday on a school bus.

A call came in at 4:10 p.m. reporting the student had harassed another student. According to the report, High School Principal Aaron Rex had already made contact with the student and his parents and had addressed the situation.
