Murderer's Appeal Rejected

ST. MARYS — Ohio’s highest court will not be hearing the appeal of a convicted murder who beat a St. Marys man to death in 2010.

On Wednesday, justices from the Ohio Supreme Court rejected a request to hear the appeal of Gordon W. Diggle III. Diggle’s attorney, Katherine Szudy, attempted to get justices to take up the appeal following a ruling from the Third District Court of Appeals in Lima, which upheld Diggle’s murder conviction out of Auglaize County Common Pleas Court.  

Carl E. Cook, 83

Carl E. Cook, 83, of Celina, died on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at his residence.

He was born on Nov. 7, 1928, in Rockford, to Grant L. and Lena Floe (Snyder) Cook, and they preceded him in death.

On Nov. 14, 1953, he married Dorothy L. (Gelhaus), and she survives.

Gary L. McCoy Sr., 64

September 7, 2012

Gary L. McCoy Sr., 64, of Wapakoneta passed away at 5:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at Lima Manor.

He was born on Oct. 27, 1947, in Canton, Ill., to Richard and Betty Jo (Hukill) McCoy, and they preceded him in death.

On Aug. 28, 1972, he married Judy L. McBeth, and she survives in Wapakoneta.

He is also survived by two sons, Craig and Richard McCoy; a daughter, Michelle Schrober; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Karen Jo Reed and Kathy Blumenstein.

Celina Man Arrested

CELINA — A Celina man could face charges for allegedly having $10,000 worth of illegal drugs in his home.

On Aug. 31, the Celina Police Department assisted the Mercer County Adult Probation Office and the Grand Lake Drug Task Force at a check of a probationer’s home located at 902 Sycamore St., Celina. Officers were checking the home of Jerrod Muhlenkamp, 30.

During the initial check of the residence it was determined that illegal drugs were allegedly present in the home. A search warrant was then obtained and the entire residence was checked.

Park To Host Annual Festival

MINSTER — A local state park is putting the finishing touches on an annual festival.

Lake Loramie State Park will host its annual Fall Harvest Festival Sept. 14-16. Park Manager Brian Miller said the event typically draws a large crowd.

“There are just so many great offerings,” Miller told The Evening Leader. “It’s crazy down there — we will pack the campground and do overflow at some of our beach areas. We get a lot of campers for it.”

Therapist Gives Tips

MINSTER — A local speech language pathologist reviewed some tips and treatments available for swallowing issues during a program on Wednesday.

Swallowing issues, or dysphagia, include “any difficulty in the passage of solids or liquids from the mouth to the stomach,” P.T. Services Speech Language Pathologist Denise Bergman told a crowd gathered at the F.J. Stallo Memorial Library for her presentation.

Donald L. “Donnie” Fisher, 66

Donald L. “Donnie” Fisher, 66, of Wapakoneta, died on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, from complications following  a stroke on May 27.

He was born on Dec. 31, 1945, in Lima, the son of Clem and Hilda (Eisert) Fisher, and they preceded him in death.  

On Nov. 23, 1968, he married Pam Opperman, and she survives.
