NEW BREMEN — An area economic development director gave an update on workforce development initiatives, as well as one that will be soon taking place locally.
During her report to the members of the New Bremen Community Improvement Corporation, New Bremen Economic Development Director Angela Hamberg noted her recent trip to Traverse City, Mich., in early August with members of the Auglaize County Economic Development Coalition.
Ernest J. Street, 58, of 225 S. Pear St., St. Marys, died at 10:25 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
He was born on April 26, 1954, in Sidney, to Ernest and Hilda (Marshall) Street, and his father preceded him in death. His mother survives him in St. Marys.
COLUMBUS GROVE — The Minster girls cross country team easily won the girls gray division title at the Columbus Grove Invitational on Saturday morning, while the Wildcat boys team finished second.
Minster's Julia Slonkosky continued the strong start to her freshman season with a win in the gray division race with a 19:46.34 time.
ST. MARYS — The Parkway Panthers team came from behind Saturday afternoon to defeat the Fort Recovery Indians 23-25, 25-18 and 25-20 to win the St. Marys Roughrider Volleyball Invitational.
The host Roughriders finished fifth in the six team invitational. They defeated the Old Fort Stockaders 25-13 and 25-19. In the third place match Allen East defeated Spencerville in three sets 25-22, 12-25 and 25-19.
CELINA — Residents in the Grand Lake St. Marys Watershed who want a closer look at some of the techniques being used to help clean up the region can do so this week.
The Do-It Yourself Tour, which is sponsored by a handful of watershed stakeholders, will take place from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. The tour will feature eight stops around Auglaize and Mercer counties, with each highlighting techniques used to help clean up the watershed.
ST. MARYS — A Roughrider alum recently traveled to Tampa to take part in an event that helped her learn more about politics.
Shelby Core, a sophomore at Ohio Northern University and a 2011 Memorial High School grad, attended the Republican National Convention last week as a way to get first-hand experience in the political process. A political science major, Core worked with the Ohio delegation at the convention.
Gloria J. Winget, 78, of 909 Canterbury Drive, Celina, died at 1:05 a.m. Monday, Sept. 3, 2012, at Celina Manor Nursing Home.
She was born on May 23, 1934, in Celina, to Harold and Rosemary (Sprague) Lehman, and they preceded her in death.
On March 15, 1952, she married Francis Winget, and he survives in Celina.
She is also survived by her children, Garry (Kris) Winget of Celina and Vicki (Jim) Combs of Celina; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a stillborn son, Steve Winget.

Arrangements are being completed with the Miller Funeral Home in St. Marys, where a visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.
Lacy L. Cramer, 67, of St. Marys, formerly of Fostoria, died at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at his residence following a brief illness.
He was born on Oct. 19, 1944, in Fostoria, to Dustin and Edith (Keckler) Cramer, and they preceded him in death.
On Feb. 12, 1994, he married Linda Keysor, and she survives at the residence.
Woodrow W. Rickman, 95, formerly of 515 Locust St., St. Marys, died on Monday, Sept. 3, 2012, at Otterbein – St. Marys.
He was born on Feb. 20, 1917, in St. Marys, to Uriah and Ora (Bass) Rickman, and they preceded him in death.
On Oct. 8, 1941, in Lima, he married Mildred Harper, and she survives.
He is also survived by a son, Woodrow (Sharon Duncan) Rickman II of St. Marys; a daughter, Vickie Lynn Beining of Lima; five grandchildren, Matthew, Jennelle and Ashley Beining and Michael (Marina) and Matthew Rickman.
