Richard Brown, 75

October 1, 2012

Richard Brown, 75, of Celina, died on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.

He was born on Feb. 20, 1937, in Decatur, Ill., to Robert and Eleanor (Damery) Brown, and they preceded him in death.

On Nov. 23, 1983, he married Theresa J. Thurman-Orrender, and she survives.

Vernon W. Barhorst, 86

Vernon W. Barhorst, 86, of South Paris Street, Minster, died at 5:28 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Minster.

He was born on April 30, 1926, in Fort Loramie, to Elizabeth Ernst and Frank F. Barhorst, and they preceded him in death.

On Nov. 19, 1949, at St. Michael Church in Fort Loramie, he married Treva P. (Zimmerman) Barhorst, and she survives.

FOOTBALL: Defiance pulls away late against St. Marys, 45-21

DEFIANCE — A wild back-and-forth affair between a pair of Western Buckeye League teams desperate for a win turned one-sided after a fumble and lengthy return.

Abram Ramirez scooped up a fumble at his own nine yard line and ran 85 yards to help Defiance seal a 45-21 win over St. Marys at Fred Brown Stadium on Friday night.

FOOTBALL: New Bremen shakes off rough start, beats Fort Recovery, 31-28

NEW BREMEN — Trey Naylor's 35-yard field goal proved to be the difference for the New Bremen Cardinals in a 31-28 win over Fort Recovery on Friday night.

 “We wanted them to understand that when you play together as a team and you play for each other and handle adversity because everyone has each other’s back that is the kind of thing you can accomplish," Cardinals head coach Jason McGaharan said." I think this team finally understands that when you play as a team you can overcome the kind of start we had tonight.”

FOOTBALL: Minster bounces back with 34-8 win over Anna

ANNA — Minster got off to a quick start after bouncing back from their loss to Coldwater last week in their game against Midwest Athletic opponent Anna Rockets. Minster has never beat Anna and the Wildcats took a commanding halftime lead and picked up the 34-8 MAC victory.

“It was a tough two weeks for us mentally and emotionally draining,” said Minster coach Nate Moore. “I am proud of the way the kids played tonight, they should be happy with the victory.”

Catherine 'Bunky' Burd, 83

Catherine “Bunky” Burd, 83, of 1416 White Oak Drive, St. Marys, died at 6:35 p.m. Thursday Sept. 27, 2012, at Golden Living Center – Valley in St. Marys.

She was born on June 15, 1929, in Petersburg, Va., to Burton Luther and Gracie Marie (Michaels) Boyd, and they preceded her in death.

On July 7, 1945, in Petersburg, Va., she married Paul W. Burd, and he preceded her in death on June 10, 1992.

Janet A. Plikerd Ruen, 49

Janet A. Plikerd Ruen, 49, of Venedocia, died at 1:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born on April 24, 1963, in Lima, to Wesley F. and Dorothea Pugh Plikerd, and her father preceded her in death. Her mother survives her in Spencerville.

On Sept. 24, 1983, she married Douglas R. Ruen, and he survives.

She is also survived by two daughters, Rachel A. (Bryan) Sipe of Mendon and Laura E. (Josh) Lyle of Spencerville; two granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by a sister.

Mark Norton, 53

Mark Norton, 53, of Celina, died on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.

He was born on April 4, 1959, in Celina, to Roy K. and Lillian C. (Presley) Norton, and they preceded him in death.

He is survived by a brother; five sisters.

He was preceded in death by three brothers.

Private family graveside services will be held at Swamp College Cemetery in Celina.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Association of Mercer County.

Celia G. Beougher, 87

Celia G. Beougher, 87, of Celina, died at 3:25 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at Celina Manor Nursing Home.

She was born on Dec. 27, 1924, in Celina, to Harvey Shimp and Etha Haney, and they preceded her in death.

On Jan. 3, 1942, she married Ray Beougher, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 21, 2003.

She is survived by a son, Ron (Erma) Beougher of Celina; a daughter, Barbara (Lynn) Avery of Celina; two sisters, Wanda Ballard of Altamont, Ill., and Marilyn Craft of St. Marys; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
