CELINA — Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey announced today his office is investigating an incident that occurred on Brown Road, Celina.
At 7:29 a.m. this morning, deputies were notified Danny L. Boise, 61 of 911 North 7th Street, Apt. #15 Coldwater, had not made it to his dialysis appointment in Celina. Deputies and Coldwater Police began to search for him.
At 7:52 a.m., deputies were dispatched to 5139 Brown Road, when the residents there discovered a vehicle in their pond with a body lying near a garage there.
Correction: Thursday's Evening Leader incorrectly stated where tonight's St. Marys at Bath boys basketball game will be played. The game will be contested at Bath High School tonight, with a 6 p.m. JV tip-off.
The Rev. Joan Diane Spade, 70, formerly of Botkins, died on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, after a brief illness at St. Marys Living Center in St. Marys.
She was born on Dec. 31, 1941, in Oxford, to Charles and Dorothy Spade, and they preceded her in death.
She is survived by a niece.
She was preceded in death by her brother.
Private family services will be held. Burial will follow at Oxford Cemetery in Oxford.
Arrangements are entrusted to Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West Chapel), St. Marys.
Bernie A. Stone, 71, of Celina, died on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at his residence.
He was born on April 28, 1940, in Marion, to Thurman and Doris (Morrison) Stone, and they preceded him in death.
On May 15, 1961, he married Virginia Ramondelli, and she survives him.
He is also survived by two sons, Bernie (Christy) Stone of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Richard Stone of Tampa, Fla.; a brother; a sister; five grandchildren.
Frances C. Keysor, 93, formerly of 17674 Moulton-Fort Amanda Road, Wapakoneta, died on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, at Auglaize Acres Nursing Home.
She was born on March 9, 1918, in Plymouth, Mich., to Daniel and Mary (Knuth) Miller, and they preceded her in death.
Herbert Wayne Brookhart, 90, of Wapakoneta, died at 1:20 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, at Lima Memorial Health System.
He was born on June 9, 1921, in Auglaize County, to Dorwin and Ethel (Burnfield) Brookhart.
On April 14, 1946, he married Betty A. Hixenbaugh, and she survives.
He is also survived by three sons, Dennis (Cheryl) Brookhart of Dallas, Texas, Roger Brookhart of Charlotte, N.C., and Gordon (Tammy) Brookhart of Westerville; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
Robert J. Badertscher, 60, of Wapakoneta, died at 2:55 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at the Wapakoneta Manor.
He was born on Dec. 29, 1951, in Bluffton, the son of Loraine and Ruth (Drury) Badertscher, and they preceded him in death.
He is survived by his long time companion, Betty J. Hertenstein; three sons, Brian Badertscher, George (Doris) Badertscher and Shawn (Erica) Metzger, all of Wapakoneta; a stepson, Jason Hertenstein of Wapakoneta; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister; two stepbrothers.
ST. MARYS — A local chapter of the Relay for Life will start the new year with a celebration this weekend.
The Relay for Life of Southwestern Auglaize County will host its Kickoff Birthday Party from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at Varsity Lanes in St. Marys. Relay for Life Committee Member Jackie Speckman said the group is hosting the event to get area residents ready for Relay for Life, which will be held June 15 and 16 at Skip Baughman Stadium.
ST. MARYS — High winds and blowing snow cut visibility and caused delays and cancellations across the county today.
The first measurable snowfall of the new year hit Thursday and into this morning, bringing 1 to 3 inches of snow across the region. In Auglaize County, EMA Director Troy Anderson said the high winds, which could top 40 mph today, are cutting visibility.
