Vivian L. “Vi” Harmon, 84, of St. Marys, died at 7:13 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at Otterbein St. Marys.
Arrangements are pending at Cisco Funeral Home, St. Marys.

Marilyn J. Wallace, 78

Marilyn J. Wallace, 78, of Wapakoneta, died at 4:23 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.

She was born on Sept. 10, 1934, in Pusheta Township, Auglaize County, the daughter of Millard and Hilda (Schweitzer) Koenig, and they preceded her in death.  

On June 11, 1955, she married Robert L. Wallace, and he preceded her in death on July 1, 1993.

Police Chief To Retire

NEW BREMEN — After serving 33 years as the Village of New Bremen police chief, Doug Harrod announced his retirement Tuesday night, effective March 31.

“After 33 years of working for the village, I’ve decided that it’s time to retire,” Harrod told councilors at their meeting Tuesday night. “I’ve given it a lot of thought and a lot of things have went into this decision, but I think it’s time that I move on and have another part of my life.”

Parade Packs Downtown

ST. MARYS — Ghouls, goblins, princesses and even Pac-Man took over downtown St. Marys as part of an annual tradition.

The St. Marys Rotary Club Halloween Parade brought a variety of costumed children downtown. In addition to the annual parade, a costume contest allowed children to compete in categories ranging from prettiest and ugliest to most original and couples.

In year’s past, cold and blustery conditions greeted parade participants. However, this year, early morning showers gave way to a clear, warm night.

Dorothy M. Stover, 88

Dorothy M. Stover, 88, of 523 N. Mill St., Celina, died at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born on July 7, 1924, in Celina, to Albert and Nora (Fortman) Mersman, and they preceded her in death.

On June 21, 1947, she married William Alvin Stover Sr., and he preceded her in death on May 2, 2005.

Survivors include her sons, William “Bill” (Janet) Stover of Celina and Bob (Helen) Stover of Celina; a daughter, Mary Jane Stover of Cincinnati; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Nancy Ruth Hendricks, 71

Nancy Ruth Hendricks, 71, of Celina, died on Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at her residence.

She was born on June 26, 1941, in St. Marys, to James Smith Casperson and Alma Christina (Lehman) Casperson, and they preceded her in death.

On July 14, 1961, she married Louis Hendricks, and he preceded her in death on April 22, 1990.

Robert Calvin Longsworth, 88

Robert Calvin Longsworth, 88, passed away from this life on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at the Gardens of Wapakoneta, surrounded by his loving family.

Robert was born on Oct. 23, 1924, in Auglaize County in Moulton Township, the son of Lloyd and Esther (Badertscher) Longworth, and they preceded him in death.

On April 9, 1947, he married Bernice J. Nuss, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 5, 2006.

Karen N. Gilliam, 50

Karen N. Gilliam, 50, of Wapakoneta, died at 5:10 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at her residence.

She was born on Oct. 10, 1962, in Indianapolis, Ind., to John and Priscilla (Ashlock) Reiboldt, and her father preceded her in death. Her mother survives her in Indianapolis, Ind.

SOCCER: St. Marys has tying goal taken off board, falls to Shawnee

WAPAKONETA — An exciting district semifinal match between the St. Marys and Shawnee boys soccer teams may be most remembered for the goal that didn’t show up on the scoreboard.

Shawnee won 4-1 to move on to the district final on Saturday, but it was a wild, controversial ride getting to that point.

“We’re happy to be moving on,” Shawnee head coach Dick Hagen said.

Local District Nabs Honor

NEW KNOXVILLE — Of the 29 school districts in Auglaize, Mercer, Allen and Shelby counties, New Knoxville Local School is one of only four districts to earn an “Excellent with Distinction” rating on its report card, according to preliminary results released from the Department of Education.

“I cannot express how exciting this is for our district,” Principal Linda Tebbe told board of education members at their meeting Monday night. “We knew we had the ‘Excellent Rating,’ we were just waiting on the Value Added report.”
