Minster softball wins 1-0 pitcher's duel over Parkway

MINSTER — One run was enough in a game matching up the two best pitchers in the Midwest Athletic Conference.

Minster’s Marissa Conrad ripped an RBI single over the third base bag off Parkway’s Sierra Fent  in the bottom of the third inning for what proved to be the game-winning — and lone — run batted in the Wildcats’ 1-0 win over Parkway on Wednesday night at Four Season’s Park.

Bank Robber Gets Prison Term

CELINA — A Mercer County man convicted of robbing a bank in November was sentenced to six years in prison Wednesday afternoon.

Mercer County Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey Ingraham imposed the prison sentence on Cody Maxwell, 22, for his role in robbing the Peoples Bank on West Logan Street on Nov. 15. Maxwell previously pleaded guilty to one count of robbery, a second-degree felony. He faced a maximum of eight years in prison on the count.

Nancy R. Hyll, 82

Nancy R. Hyll, 82, of Dayton, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2014.

She was born on in St. Marys, to E.B. and Lillian Hall, both of whom preceded her in death.

 She is also preceded in death by her husband, Louis H. Hyll, who died in 2005, and by two sisters, Dona Corrigan and Joyce Kogge, both of St. Marys.

Nancy is survived by two daughters, Leslie Kay Hyll (Edmund Cordray) and Dona Luann Hyll, nieces Jeri Lipp, Nancy Moeller, Linda McDonald, Kris Holt and Sharon Hyll, nephew Mark Hyll and several honorary daughters and sons.

Riders feature multi-event winners at Celina, Minster boys win at Versailles

CELINA —  Celina swept its six-team invitational on Saturday, with the St. Marys girls track team finishing third and the Roughrider boys coming in fourth.

The Roughrider girls scored 98.5 points, behind first-place Celina (155) and Ottawa-Glandorf (116). Celina was led by junior Bekah Carr, who won four events.   Carr won the girls 100 hurdles (16.17) the 300 hurdles (48.15) the pole vault (10-0),  and the long jump (16-2.75) on Saturday.

New Knoxville sweeps doubleheader

NEW KNOXVILLE – The New Knoxville offense sprayed hits all over the field and the pitching was stellar for the  Rangers  as they swept a twin bill from the Jackson Center Tigers 10-0 in five innings and 7-1 in a shortened five innings in the second game.

ST. MARYS — The St. Marys baseball team put up a combined 25 hits and 21 runs in a doubleheader sweep of the Minster Wildcats on Saturday at K.C. Geiger Park. The Riders run-ruled the Wildats 10-0 in the opener behind the strong pitching Zack Wilker and then jumped on the Cats early in the second game en route to an 11-3 victory.

April 5: The St. Marys Kiwanis Club's pancake breakfast will be held from 6 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today at the American Legion on Ohio 703.

Noble Community Park's annual hog roast today. Meals will be served from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and carryouts will be served until 6:30 p.m. There also will be games, clowns, a cake wheel, door prizes and 50/50. An auction starts at 7 p.m.

April 6: A free community dinner will be held from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. today at the ROC, 702 E. Spring St., St. Marys.
