NEW BREMEN — After accumulating more than 122 hours of work, Alex Speelman, 18, of New Bremen, received his Eagle Scout Award on May 20 in a ceremony at the American Legion Post 241.
ST. MARYS — A local art center will soon be closing on one exhibit and opening another.
Through today, Lindsay Cooper, of Botkins, is showcasing her original paintings at Arts Place’s Collective Center on Spring Street as part of “Moments.”
“There are 16 pieces,” said Mary Hone with Arts Place.
Cooper holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in art education with a specialization in painting from Bowling Green State University. She enjoys painting animals and landscapes, but focuses on portraits.
Loutisha L. Francis, 44, of 14075 Glynwood-New Knoxville Road, St. Marys, died on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at the Cleveland Clinic following an extended illness.
She was born on Nov. 18, 1967, in Welch, W.Va., the daughter of John and Eunice (Flanagan) Coldiron, and her father preceded her in death. Her mother survives her in St. Marys.
On Aug. 15, 1987, she married Donald D. Francis, and he survives at the residence.

NEW BREMEN — Variety is what area residents will find in the lineup for the Golden Triangle Summer Concert Series this year, as free musical entertainment returns this weekend.
“It’s a really good mix this year, we’ve tried to spread the variety of the music out a little bit and to branch out a little bit to try to appeal to a wider audience,” Southwestern Auglaize County Chamber of Commerce Director Scott Frey said.
The lineup is dotted with a few favorites, Frey said, in addition to a handful of new performers.
CELINA — A Batavia woman appeared in court for the second time in a week to answer to charges she was involved in a home invasion on Feb. 25 near Mendon.
Patricia Ann (Patsy) Dawson, 74, of Celina, died at 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2012.
She was born on July 5, 1937, in Sand Fork, W.Va., to Lenita (Spicer) and Glenn Garrett.
On Dec. 19, 1959, in Parkersburg, W.Va., she married William C. (Bill) Dawson, and he survives her.
She is also survived by two daughters, Christi (Paul) Salchak of Waynesville and Cherie (Tom) Smith of Celina; three granddaughters; three grandsons; her sister; her sister-in-law; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister.
Leonard T. Browning, 87, formerly of Harrison, died at 3:47 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Otterbein - St. Marys.
He was born on Nov. 20, 1924, in Woodbine, Ky., to Andrew J. and Grace A. (Decker) Browning, and they preceded him in death.
On May 10, 1947, he married Lois B. Burch, and she preceded him in death on March 18, 2008.
Alverta Eileen Holsheiser, 95, a resident of Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community, formerly of Springfield, Ill., died at 1:23 a.m. Sunday, May 27, 2012, at Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community.
She was born on April 26, 1917, in Girard, Ill., the daughter of Otis and Vega (Shull) Riffey, and they preceded her in death.
On Dec. 10, 1937, she married Charles H. Holsheiser, and he preceded her in death on April 7, 1999.
Albert Frank Schulze, 89, formerly of Dayton, died on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at Hospice of Daytony.
He was born on May 27, 1923, in Minster, to Louis and Henrietta (Bertke) Schulze, and they preceded him in death.
On Nov. 25, 1948, he married Rosemary C. (Sieverding), and she preceded him in death on July 21, 2010.

MINSTER — The Minster baseball team remodeled on the fly.
It’s easy to look at Minster’s return to the state tournament in hindsight as a natural extension of last year’s success, but the Wildcats head back to Columbus with a line-up that looks only vaguely similar to the one that lifted them to their first-ever state baseball championship last June. And it’s a team that dealt with adversity throughout the 2012 season.
Remade and retooled, Minster is looking for another title with a lot of new names on the line-up card.
