VAN WERT — The New Knoxville volleyball team made the defending state champions work for their latest district championship.
The Rangers gave the top-ranked Marion Local Flyers all they could handle for three games before the Flyers emerged with a 25-21, 22-25, 25-17, 25-9 win in the Division IV district championship game at Van Wert.
WAPAKONETA — A Wapakoneta teen was arrested on Thursday on a charge of making a threat to a church.
According to a report from the Wapakoneta Police Department, at 1:28 p.m. Thursday, the police department received a report of a potential threat made towards a church located in the city of Wapakoneta. A male suspect had left message with a family member stating the threat. The suspect was upset over a post on Facebook in regard to the Pledge of Allegiance and the phrase “Under God.”
Taylor E. Dicke, 11, of New Bremen, died at 9:12 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at her residence.
She was born on Aug. 25, 2002, in St. Marys.
She was the daughter of Joseph Dicke and Nicole (Mohler) Dicke, both of New Bremen.
NEW BREMEN — Two people have died as a result of injuries suffered in a two-vehicle collision near New Bremen Thursday night.
According to a report from the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, at approximately 5:01 p.m. Thursday, a 2006 Honda Ridgeline that was operated by Joan Shoffner, 83, of Sidney, was traveling south on Ohio 364. Shoffner failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection and traveled into the path of an eastbound vehicle and was struck in the passenger side.

ELIDA — After 80 fruitless minutes, the St. Marys boys soccer team wasted little time in overtime to keep its postseason run going.
Zac Nelson booted the Roughriders into the district title game with a golden goal a little more than a minute into extra time on Wednesday night, and the Roughriders defeated the Bryan Golden Bears 1-0 in a Division II district semifinal.
WAPAKONETA — A Wapakoneta man was indicted on sex offenses stemming from an investigation by the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office.
On July 16, the sheriff’s office received a complaint concerning a person allegedly taking a video of a small child in a state of nudity. Based upon the information provided a search warrant was executed at the suspects residence located at 13690 Brown Road in rural Wapakoneta.
Joyce A. Steele, 77, of Wapakoneta, died at 12:31 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.
She was born on July 7, 1936, in Fondy, Ky., the daughter of John and Dallas (Reed) Mobley, who preceded her in death.
On July 3, 1954, she married Vernon L. Steele, and he survives.
Aloys S. “Junior” Sommer Jr., 80, of New Bremen, died at 6:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at Elmwood Assisted Living of New Bremen. He was born on Sept. 15, 1933, in Fort Loramie, to the late Aloys and Marie (Bergman) Sommer.
On Nov. 10, 1956, he married Marilyn Swallow, who survives in New Bremen.
