Kill Crowned Queen

ST. MARYS — Memorial High School graduate Mallory Kill, daughter of Mike and Carrie Kill, was crowned SummerFest Queen Sunday, in one of the signature events of that kicks off festival week.

“This is actually really important to me,” Kill said after the crowning.

Kill said she’s following in the footsteps of her mother, who competed in pageants as a young woman.

“(My mom) said just smile the whole time, and don’t be nervous,” Kill said. “She just got me happy for it.”

Raymond L. Trogdlon, 75

Raymond L. Trogdlon, 75, of 2100 Celina Road, St. Marys, died at 10:47 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.

He was born on June 1, 1939, in Wayne County, W.Va., the son of Lafe and Louary (LeMaster) Trogdlon.

He married Altie “A.J.” Renfro, and she preceded him in death.

Camp TALK Teaches Communication Skills To Campers

CELINA — Wright State University Lake Campus hosted Camp TALK by the Lake this week, teaching communication to nine special education students who connect with others sharing similar challenges.

On Friday, students wrapped up those experiences, and said goodbye to new friends, ready to enter the school year more prepared for bonding with students and teachers. The day offered more speech therapy in one day than the students would receive in school in a week, broken up by fun activities.

Jacqueline Eleanor Gerstner, 85

Jacqueline Eleanor Gerstner, 85, formerly of 704 Edward St., St. Marys, died on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at Otterbein St. Marys, where she had made her home for the past 15 months.

Jackie was born on Dec. 19, 1928, in Philadelphia, Pa., the only child of Alvin and Bertice (McBride) Hencken.  She grew up in the village of New Rumley, and graduated from nearby Scio High School in 1946.  She earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from the Ohio State University in 1950, and worked for a year at a women’s reformatory in Pennsylvania.

Cordie Miracle, 89

August 1, 2014

Cordie Miracle, 89, of Wapakoneta, and formerly of Findlay, went home to  be with our Lord on Wednesday, July 30, 2014.

Cordie was born on March 27, 1925, in Bell County, Ky., to the late George and MaryBell (Hoskins) Thompson.

She married the love of her life, Cecil A. Miracle, on Aug. 3, 1944, in St. Marys, who preceded her in death on Jan. 14, 1990.

Dorothy I.S. Lesher, 88

Dorothy I.S. Lesher, 88, of Otterbein —  St. Marys, and formerly of New Bremen, died at 12:55 a.m. Thursday, July 31, 2014, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.  

She was born on Sept. 24, 1925, near New Bremen, the daughter of the late Irwin and Ida (Poppe) Neuman.

On Jan. 25, 1948, she married Clarence Lesher, who survives in St. Marys.

Bids Submitted For Path

ST. MARYS — Five firms submitted bids Thursday afternoon to build a perimeter walking path around K.C. Geiger Park.

Miami Erie Construction submitted the apparent low bid of $131,000 for the project, which will include a paved walking path around the park. The engineer’s estimate for the project was $178,415.75, resulting in a savings of close to $47,500. The highest bid came in at $175,026.50.

“We’re really pleased with the bids,” City Engineer Craig Moeller said. “I didn’t expect them quite that low.”

Locals Shine In Ring

WAPAKONETA — Bridget Oen said it’s compassion she’s learned through showing in the 4-H market and dairy competitions as a 4-H member —compassion for the cattle and taking care of them.

Born and raised on a dairy farm, the St. Marys teen said she was looking for something more exciting than the rabbits she’d shown the year before when she started showing cattle.

Theresa M. Case, 80

July 29, 2014

Theresa M. Case, 80, formerly of Auglaize County Road 33A in St. Marys, died at 12:10 a.m. Sunday, July 27, 2014, in the emergency department of Joint Township District Memorial Hospital.

She was born on Nov. 23, 1933, in Auglaize County, to Louis and Elizabeth (Yahl) Dietz.

On Aug. 22, 1953, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys, she married William M. Case, who died on Sept. 17, 2000.
