NEW KNOXVILLE 57, JACKSON CENTER 42
JACKSON CENTER — New Knoxville’s balanced scoring proved to be more potent than the one-woman show that was Jackson Center’s Brooke Richard.
A trio of Rangers scored in double figures in New Knoxville’s 57-42 win over Jackson Center on Saturday afternoon.
Paige Lehman led the way with 18 points, Meg Reineke added 13 points and Haley Horstman had 12 points in the win.
NEW BREMEN — The New Bremen Cardinals basketball team recovered from a poor third quarter and with the help of rebounds and just enough free throws down the stretch they held on to defeat the St. Henry Redskins 53-49 Friday evening in a MAC contest at New Bremen.
“We made it a lot tougher than it needed to be down the stretch,” Cardinals head coach Adam Dougherty said.
FT. RECOVERY — A dominant second half propelled Ft. Recovery to a 56-32 victory over fellow Midwest Athletic Conference foe Minster on Friday night.
“They’ve got a lot of weapons on the floor, but when we went dry, (things got bad),” said Minster head coach Mike Lee. “It’s a lot easier putting that thing up when you’re up 10, 12, 14 as opposed to a one, two possession game. They have an outstanding basketball team.”
ROCKFORD — The New Knoxville boys basketball team broke away from a feisty Parkway squad, 57-44, to earn its first Midwest Athletic Conference win of the season on Friday night.
The Rangers (6-6, 1-2 MAC) went to the half tied at 23-23 with the Panthers, who entered the night at 1-11 with a five-game losing streak in tow.
But a 21-point night from Derek Luth kept the Panthers close before the Rangers outscored Parkway 14-10 in the third quarter and 18-11 in the fourth quarter to pick up the double-digit win.
DEFIANCE 44, WAPAKONETA 41
WAPAKONETA — For 32 minutes Friday night, the Wapakoneta Redskins gave the undefeated and state-ranked Defiance Bulldogs all they could handle and then some.
They held a team that had been averaging 64 points a game to a season-low 44.
They kept the Bulldogs from even scoring a field goal in the second quarter.
MINSTER — The Minster girls basketball team defeated Ft. Recovery 46-40 on Thursday night, handing the Indians their first loss in Midwest Athletic Conference play.
Minster’s win made it eight straight victories and extended their streak of holding opponents to 29 or fewer points to six games.
Kayla Wuebker led Minster with 14 points, while Tara Clune added 12 and Kayla Albers and Samantha Hoelscher each scored 5.
Kelly Nietfeld scored 12 points for Ft. Recovery. Olivia Schwieterman added 10 and Lennartz scored 6.
