COLDWATER — It's a super sectional, even if it's not a super sectional by definition.
Northwest Ohio doesn't have the expanded version of the re-seeded first four rounds of the tournament, but the Division IV sectional at Coldwater lived up to the name as the top two seeded teams in the brackets went down on Saturday night.
"It can happy really easily in this sectional," New Knoxville head coach Tim Hegemier said.
Hegemier and his Rangers had plenty to celebrate.
SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — In a season of close calls and frustrating endings, the regular season and Western Buckeye League finale might’ve delivered the most powerful punch to the St. Marys boys basketball team’s collective stomach yet.
Shawnee’s Thad Vernon hit a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer to lift the Shawnee Indians to a 57-55 victory over St. Marys on Friday night.
NEW BREMEN — Two years ago Fort Recovery had a chance at the outright MAC title, but after a lengthy delay because of fire alarms, new Bremen came back to spoil the party and share a piece of the title.
This time the Indians stayed out of theblotter and atop the MAC standings.

Drew Charlson’s first race at Daytona International Speedway was everything he could ask for.
In his first race at Daytona and in his second career ARCA start, the 19-year old New Bremen resident finished runner-up to eight-time Daytona winner Bobby Gerhart in the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 last weekend.
“To come here and finish second to one of the best racers ever at Daytona is simply a dream come true,” Charlson said.
CANTON — A pair of area swimmers took to the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton on Thursday for state competition.
Jared Deubler, a St. Marys sophomore, competed in the preliminary in the boys Division II OHSAA swimming and diving championships on Thursday.
