The St. Marys and Celina boys soccer teams will meet again — and this time someone will walk away a winner.
Celina beat Kenton 2-0 on Monday night in a sectional semifinal match at Ryan Field in Wapakoneta to advance to Thursday evening’s sectional championship game against the Roughriders.
St. Marys and Celina played to a scoreless tie in the regular season as well as a scoreless tie during the 2012 season. The two teams last played in a tournament match in 2007, when Celina won 2-0 in a sectional championship game.
The Western Buckeye League and Midwest Athletic Conference each have a team atop divisions in the latest Associated Press football poll.
Marion Local is the top-ranked team in Division VII. The unbeaten Flyers face the second-ranked team in Division V Coldwater on Friday.
Kenton is still the top team in Division IV. The Wildcats lead the WBL with a 6-0 league mark.
ST. MARYS – When senior Kristen Dammeyer took up cross country this fall, she was joining a veteran St. Marys girls cross country team with high hopes for 2013.
Dammeyer and the Riders fulfilled those aspirations on Saturday with a second-place finish and a four-place improvement from last year’s WBL championship meet.
The senior-led St. Marys girls cross country team had six runners finish in the top 22 as the Roughriders captured second place on their home course at the WBL meet at the course near Memorial High School.
MINSTER 41, PARKWAY 19
MINSTER — The Minster Wildcats didn’t waste much time Friday night getting on the scoreboard in front of a homecoming crowd. The Wildcats forced the Parkway Panthers to punt and on one 54-yard run by junior Sam Dues the Wildcats had a quick lead.
Minster never looked back 41-19 victory.

ST. MARYS — Defiance quarterback Will Batt refused to let his team lay down when the Bulldogs found themselves down by 17 points to St. Marys midway through the third quarter on Friday night.
“I got into my team,” said Batt, who rushed for three touchdowns. “I told them this is my senior year and we’re not losing this game. We’re winning out. I just got on them.”
The Bulldogs responded, handing St. Marys the latest gut-punching loss in an 0-7 season that’s had so many close calls.

COLDWATER — The Minster boys and girls cross country teams captured Midwest Athletic Conference cross country titles, fending off strong competition atop the leaderboard to add to the storied programs’ list of conference titles.
The Minster boys scored 58 points and held off rival New Bremen, which had 61 points for the MAC crown. St. Henry finished third. New Knoxville turned in a sixth-place finish with 146 points.
ST. MARYS — After the St. Marys boys soccer team scored a few early goals, Thursday night turned into more of a coronation than a contest.
The St. Marys boys soccer team clinched the program’s first Western Buckeye League championship with an 8-0 against Van Wert at Roughrider Field on Thursday.
“I couldn’t be prouder,” St. Marys head coach Dave Ring said. “This is just a fantastic moment for our team.”
