ST. MARYS — Give the Wapakoneta Redskins five turnovers in one half and the result is all but assured.
Too experienced. Too strong. The fourth-ranked team in Ohio’s Division III powered to its eighth win with another dominant defensive performance against its county rival and former coach.
ST. HENRY 21, MINSTER 13: A big 65-yard pass completion from Mitch Stammen to Blake Hoying down the sideline gave the St. Henry Redskins the cushion they needed Friday night as they beat the Minster Wildcats 21-13, but it was the early play of the Redskins that put the Wildcats behind the eight ball. St. Henry scored two first-quarter touchdowns and then held off Minster's late charge for the 21-13 win. Minster quarterback Josh Nixon had a pair of one-yard touchdown runs. Nixon was 13-of-27 for 182 yards.

DEFIANCE — The Roughriders weren’t ensnared in a potential trap game at Defiance. Now they’ll head into next week’s showdown against Wapakoneta with something they haven’t had since 2011 — a winning streak.
The St. Marys football team started slowly in a scoreless first quarter before exploding for seven touchdowns over the game’s final three quarters in a 49-21 win at Defiance on Friday night.
COLUMBUS — St. Marys senior Carter Bowman asked his coach about the menacing putt he was about to face from just off the green on the Par 5 12th hole at the Scarlet Course on Friday afternoon.
St. Marys head coach Scott Ross was a little glib in his advice.
“I think you should aim three feet left and hope it stops,” Ross said.
It stopped in the hole.

WAPAKONETA — The unbeaten Wapakoneta Redskins took care of business Friday against the winless Defiance Bulldogs, and in the process, received some help from the Kenton Wildcats.
Wapakoneta (6-0, 5-0), with a huge contest looming next Friday against the Ottawa-Glandorf Titans, shut down Defiance during a 38-0 win Friday in a Western Buckeye League varsity football contest.
ST. MARYS — St. Marys was pinned back to its own seven yard line, protecting an eight-point lead with 5:40 left in Friday night’s homecoming game against rival Celina.
Celina knew what was coming. They just couldn’t stop the bruising, powerful rushing duo of a freshman in his first breakout game and a senior who has been punishing opposing defenses all season.
