Monday Girls Hoops Round-Up: Minster, New Bremen roll

UNION CITY — The Minster girls basketball team emptied the bench and spread 75 points between 13 different players in a 75-34 win over Mississinawa Valley on Monday night.

The Wildcats improved to 4-0. They will travel to St. Henry on Thursday for another Midwest Athletic Conference game.

Kayla Richard led Minster with 16 points, the lone Wildcat in double figures. Claire Fischer hit three 3-pointers for nine points, along with nine points from Logan Arnold and eight points from Lauren Roetgerman.

Marion Local gets 3-peat, Coldwater goes back-to-back in Massillon

MASSILLON — Marion Local's 33-0 win over Trimble in the Division VII state title game on Saturday made the Flyers the seventh school in Ohio High School Athletic Association history to win three or more consecutive titles, joining Cincinnati Moeller, Cleveland St. Ignatius, Delphos St. John’s, Newark Catholic, Versailles and Youngstown Ursuline

“It means a lot to us and our community,” Marion Local quarterback Adam Bertke said. “Just to be out there with those top schools, it’s an awesome honor.”

St. Marys breaks through with 50-39 win over New Bremen

NEW BREMEN — Things started clicking for the St. Marys Roughriders during the second quarter of Saturday night’s game at New Bremen. St. Marys got its hands in the passing lanes, started draining shots and eventually opened up a double-digit second-half lead that it nursed through the fourth quarter for a 50-39 win over the Cardinals.

St. Marys’ ended its three-game opening gauntlet against top Midwest Athletic Conference teams with a win —  and a double-digit victory at that.

Arnett's putback lifts Rangers over Anna 59-57

ANNA – It came down to a put back basket by Andrew Arnett with two seconds left to put the New Knoxville Rangers basketball team over the hump Saturday evening and give the Rangers a 59-57 victory over the Anna Rockets in a non-league game played at Anna.

MINSTER 64, SIDNEY LEHMAN 51

MINSTER—Minster head coach Mike Lee said it best after his team downed Lehman Catholic 64-51.

“I just told the kids there are going to be nights that are not pretty and there were some rough moments, but it is better to be rough on the winning side then on the down side,” said Lee.

Austin Brackman and Brandon Hoying scored 12 points apiece. Eli Wolf had 11 points.

Versailles tops New Bremen in early MAC showdown

NEW BREMEN — A three minute stretch midway through the third quarter allowed the Versailles Tigers to close up a deficit and by the end of the quarter grab a three-point lead. The Tigers hit free throws down the stretch to defeat New Bremen 58-47 Friday night.

New Bremen moves to 1-2 and 0-1 in the MAC.

St. Henry pulls away from Riders 56-42

ST. MARYS  — St. Henry’s first half was a messy affair, full of fouls on defense to go with a clunky offense. The first several possessions of the second half erased all that for the Redskins.

St. Henry scored the first 11 points of the third quarter to break things open after St. Marys had closed to within one at the half and the Redskins earned a 56-42 non-conference win at Memorial High School.

St. Henry outscored the Riders 17-6 in the third quarter to take a 42-30 lead into the fourth.

St. Marys splits at super tri in Wapak

WAPAKONETA — Celina rallied in the late stages of its match against the St. Marys wrestling team at Thursday night’s super-tri at Wapakoneta, earning a pair of key pins and a void in three of the last four classes to eek out a 36-34 win over the rival Roughriders.

Minster's Ethan Wolf Second Team All-Ohio in D6

Minster’s big-play receivers earned All-Ohio recognition when the Division VI honors were announced by the Associated Press on Wednesday night.

Minster tight end Ethan Wolf was named Second Team All-Ohio. Wolf, who caught 41 passes for 475 yards and five touchdowns, is a 6-foot-5, 240-pound senior who signed with the University of Tennessee.

Eli Wolf, a 6-foot-4, 190 pound junior wide receiver, earned Special Mention honors. Wolf caught  48 passes for 907 yards and nine touchdowns — all team best numbers.
