This Week's Match-Ups
Monday, Sept. 12
Girls Soccer: St. Marys 1, Bath 0
BATH TOWNSHIP — Bath missed its point-blank opportunity to untie Monday’s scoreless match with St. Marys. The Roughriders took advantage on their best chance.
Megan Schmehl, a St. Marys junior defender, lofted a short rebound shot over the head of the Bath keeper following a corner kick midway through the second half to give St. Marys the difference in a 1-0 win over the Wildkittens on Monday night.
Volleyball: Celina 3, Minster 0
MINSTER — Despite a strong start the Minster Wildcats volleyball team couldn’t handle the Celina Bulldogs as they were defeated 25-21, 25-16 and 25-10 in a non-league game at Minster. The Wildcats (4-4) travel to FT. Loramie on Monday, while the Bulldogs entertain Versailles on Tuesday.
Quarterback Reggie McAdams and the Elida Bulldogs’ offense returned to the field just in time to halt the St. Marys football team’s second-half comeback bid.
McAdams engineered a game-defining 11-play, 64-yard touchdown drive in the closing minutes of the third quarter and into the early fourth quarter to give Elida the cushion it needed to escape from Skip Baughman Stadium with a 42-23 victory.
Elida had a worn-out defense and the Roughriders had scored 15 points in less than two minutes to close to within five points late in the third quarter.
MARIA STEIN — Marion Local dominated the New Bremen Cardinals with 365 total yards of offense and coasted to a 55-8 win on Friday night.
Jake Heitkamp rushed for 117 yards on 12 carries and scored two touchdowns to lead the Flyers in the Midwest Athletic Conference romp.
“I thought offensively we ran the ball pretty good,” Flyers head coach Tim Goodwin said. “They were playing man and giving us a lot of eight man fronts so it was nice to see us run the ball.”
New Bremen falls to 0-3 and 0-1 in the MAC.
Elida (1-1, 0-1 in the WBL) at St. Marys Memorial (1-1, 0-1 in the WBL)
At Skip Baughman Stadium, Friday, 7:30 p.m.
Last Meeting: In 2010, Reggie McAdams threw for five touchdowns as a junior in Elida's 49-14 romp over the Roughriders at Kraft Memorial Stadium in Elida in Week 2. It started St. Marys' nine game losing streak to end the 2010 season.
Minster (2-0, 0-0) at Delphos St. John's (0-2, 0-0)
Saturday, 7:30 p.m.
At Stadium Park, Delphos
Last Meeting: Delphos St. John's defeated the Wildcats, 35-7, in a match-up of Division VI playoff teams. The Blue Jays went on to win the state championship. Minster reached the regional title game before bowing out to Sidney Lehman.
Streak: Delphos St. John's has won 14 straight games over the Wildcats. Minster last beat the Blue Jays in 1996.
Boys Soccer: St. Marys 3, Elida 1
The St. Marys boys soccer team kept its record unblemished and reversed recent misfortune against Elida with a pair of late goals in a 3-1 win on Thursday night at West Field.
Tyler Kovar put in the go-ahead goal with 14 minutes left and the Riders’ Brennan Brown added another insurance goal less than three minutes later.
