NEW BREMEN — The New Bremen Cardinals just couldn’t keep the Minster Wildcats in check and with a touchdown in each quarter the Wildcats defeated rival New Bremen 27-7 in front of a homecoming crowd at New Bremen.

“I thought we had opportunities on the field tonight to put them away and we didn’t get it done,” Minster head coach Nate Moore said. “The kids are a little disappointed that they didn’t put more points on the board, but New Bremen is a good team and had a good game plan.”

St. Marys-Celina rises above records for teams

September 22, 2011

In this part of Ohio, there’s nothing quite like the St. Marys-Celina football rivalry.

Heated and contentious, a rivalry exists between two towns close in proximity and linked by a lake they can’t even agree on what to call. The result is two teams pouring a season’s worth of emotion into one game.

St. Marys (2-2, 1-2 WBL) will travel to Celina (0-4, 0-3 WBL) to face its rival for the 93rd time, hoping to regain the upper hand in a rivalry of which it  lost control for the first time in 12 years last fall.

Wapakoneta at Defiance

Wapakoneta fans may need to take moment to familiarize themselves with Nick Lopez’s name.

They’re going to hear a lot of it Friday night when the Wapakoneta Redskins travel to Defiance to take on the Bulldogs in a Western Buckeye League matchup.

He runs the ball, he catches the ball, he defends, he plays special teams.

MINSTER — Route 66 rivals Minster and New Bremen meet at New Bremen for a homecoming match-up with the two  teams looking to get on track.

Minster (2-2, 0-2 MAC) is coming off a 26-17 loss to Marion Local last week. While the Wildcats jumped out to an early lead, the Flyers scored 19 unanswered points to take control.

Last Friday the New Bremen Cardinals (0-4, 0-2 MAC) played a good game, but turnovers once again turned the tide as the Fort Recovery Indians edged the Cardinals 34-33.
