MINSTER — Minster center Tara Clune scored 19 points and the Wildcat girls basketball team had 11 players get into the scoring column in a 62-20 season-opening victory over Jackson Center on Saturday night.
Clune score all of her 19 points in the second and third quarters — including six baskets in the third to tally 12 of Minster’s 18 third-quarter points.
Minster held Jackson Center to four first-half points.
Minster’s Kayla Albers added 11 points and Sara Dahlinghaus had 10 points.
FORT RECOVERY —The Fort Recovery girls basketball team picked up a 55-30 win over the St. Marys Roughriders on Saturday night at the Fort Site Gymnasium.
The Indians, playing in their first game since losing to Anna in the Division III state championship game last spring, scored the final seven points of the first quarter and the last nine points in the second quarter.
Kylie Kahlig scored 12 points to lead a balanced Fort Recovery attack. The Indians had nine players get into the scoring column, including 10 points from Olivia Schwieterman.
NEW BREMEN — After jumping out to a 22-5 lead after the first quarter, the defending state champion Anna Rockets coasted from there to defeat New Bremen 67-21 in the championship game of the annual Cardinal Tip-Off Classic on Saturday night.
Paige Lehman scored 19 points and the New Knoxville Rangers held the Van Buren Knights scoreless in the fourth quarter in a 59-11 victory in the consolation game.
Coldwater is headed back to familiar territory — Northeast Ohio — in search of the school’s third state championship and a measure of atonement for last year’s loss in the championship game.
The Midwest Athletic Conference’s Coldwater Cavaliers are headed back to the state title game for the second straight season and the sixth time in the past 14 seasons after the Cavs drubbed Hicksville 41-21 in a Division V state semifinal at Lima Stadium on Friday night.

NEW BREMEN — For two and a half quarters the New Knoxville Rangers managed to stay with the Anna Rockets, but in the last four minutes of the third quarter the Rockets outscored New Knoxville 12-5 and defeated the Rangers 56-37 in the first game of the annual New Bremen Tip-Off Classic held at New Bremen.

The Minster boys basketball team has determined dates for a pair of make-up games from postponements due to the football team's playoff run.
Minster's game against Sidney Lehman Catholic will be played on Thursday, Dec. 22 at 6 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Dec. 2.
Minster's game against Anna will be played on Saturday, Jan. 21. at 6:30 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 3
FINDLAY — A pair of former New Knoxville Rangers went head-to-head in early season college basketball action when the University of Findlay faced Cedarville on Tuesday night.
Former Ranger and Findlay junior Brad Piehl and the Oilers emerged with a 90-84 win over Marcus Reineke and Cedarville.
Reineke went 5-for-5 from beyond the three-point arc and scored a team-high 17 points for the Yellow Jackets. Reineke, a freshman guard, came off the bench and went a perfect 6-of-6 from the floor.
Erika Thornsberry - Lipscomb
Erika Thornsberry, a St. Marys grad and Lipscomb freshman, is getting playing time off the bench in her first season with the Bisons.
Thornsberry scored three points and corralled four rebounds for the Bisons against Alabama A&M last Saturday.
She also had three points and four rebounds against Austin Peay on Nov. 14.
The Bison are 0-5 on the season and take to the court again at Vanderbilt on Friday night.
