No. 1 Marion Local steamrolls way past Fort Recovery

November 18, 2014

WAPAKONETA — The Marion Local juggernaut shows no signs of slowing down.

The three-time defnding state champion Flyers won their 34th straight game with a 35-0 whitewashing of fellow Midwest Athletic Conference member Fort Recovery on Saturday night in a Division VII regional quarterfinal at Harmon Field.

“I feel good about where we are,” Marion Local head coach Tim Goodwin said. “We’re healthy. But I still think we can play better than this.”

"We had a great week of practice and our seniors had us locked in," Minster head coach Geron Stokes said.

Minster rallies late, holds off Mechanicsburg in 2OT for 42-41 playoff win

November 8, 2014

MINSTER — The odds of stopping Mechanicsburg quarterback Kaleb Romero — a pinball wearing a football helmet — with the game in the balance on a two-point conversion as he hurtled full speed towards the goal line didn’t seem too good for the Minster Wildcats.

Then again, nothing Minster did to escape with a 42-41 win in double overtime from a Division VI playoff-opening game seemed likely. The Wildcats simply kept doing remarkable things in big situations until they’d made likelihood a moot point.

Roughriders finish off season strong at Van Wert

November 1, 2014

VAN WERT — The St. Marys football team celebrated as it ran off the muddy field at Eggerss Stadium, snow flying around in the whipping, cold wind like a snowglobe. They’d turned things around. They’d finished the season the right way.

The Roughriders pulled away from Van Wert for a 39-14 win to close out the season on a rainy turned snowy Halloween Friday night.

St. Marys exploded for 25 second-half points to finish off its bounceback season emphatically.

MINSTER 35, PARKWAY 15

ROCKFORD – Behind the rushing of Evan Huelsman the Minster Wildcats football team solidified their playoff spot — locked up a home playoff game — as they defeated the Parkway Panthers in miserable weather conditions 35-15 in the regular season finale.

“In this kind of conditions you have to get your running game going,” Minster head coach Geron Stokes said. “We wanted to be smart and get the running game going early and we challenged the offensive line and they responded.”
