ST. MARYS — The St. Marys girls soccer team played the match head coach Paul Dingledine has been hoping for, with crisp passing, strong finishes for goals and a shutout from his defense to close out the home portion of the Roughriders’ schedule.
Bela Godinho and Bailey Gottschalk scored goals as St. Marys shut out Fort Jennings for a 2-0 win on Monday at Roughrider Field.
The Western Buckeye League and Midwest Athletic Conference each have a team ranked No. 1 in the latest Associated Press Ohio football poll.
Marion Local (6-0) is the top team in Division VII. The Flyers stayed perfect with a 28-14 win over Delphos St. John’s last Saturday. The Flyers travel to St. Henry on Friday night.

DIVISION II BOYS SOCCER
NEW KNOXVILLE — The New Knoxville Rangers soccer team managed a goal early in the second half and it was enough to defeat the Botkins Trojans 1-0 in a physical Saturday afternoon contest at New Knoxville.
“Sometimes all it takes is one goal,” Rangers head coach Tony Hunt said. “It was a physical game between us and Botkins. We know each other well and we play club together. Coach Lynch and I have coached together so everybody knows each other well.”
CELINA — The St. Marys football team watched its hopes of an upset against Celina slip out of its hands and then run away late.
Celina exploded for 35 second-half points to pull away in the Battle of Grand Lake St. Marys 49-23 at Celina Stadium on Friday night.
The Bulldogs stay in the thick of the Division III playoff race and within a game of Western Buckeye League leader Kenton.
