New Bremen's Carson Manger named Honorable Mention D4 All-Ohio

New Bremen sophomore Carson Manger was named Honorable Mention All-Ohio in Division IV. Manger led New Bremen to an 18-6 record and a 7-2 record in the Midwest Athletic Conference.

He averaged 14 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.7 steals and 1.8 assists per game.

The Associated Press released its list on Tuesday night, which was culled from recomendations of a media panel from around the state.

The Midwest Athletic Conference was well-represented on the lists.

St. Marys' Fledderjohann named Honorable Mention All-Ohio

Garet Fledderjohann, a St. Marys Memorial senior guard, earned Honorable Mention All-Ohio honors on Monday when the Associated Pres released its Division II list based on the recommendations of a media panel.

Fledderjohann, who averaged 19.9 points per game, eclipsed 1,100 points for his career to become the third-highest scorer in school history.

Elida’s Dakota Mathias, a 6-foot-4 junior who averaged 25.4 points per game this season, was named to the First Team.

New Knoxville's Horstman named Special Mention All-Ohio

New Knoxville junior guard Haley Horstman earned Special Mention All-Ohio honors as the Associated Press announced its Division IV girls list on Tuesday night.

Horstman averaged 16.9 points, 3.9 steals, 3.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.

Horstman led the Rangers to a share of the Midwest Athletic Conference title and a 19-win regular season.

Waynesfield-Goshen’s Kaylee Patton, a 5-foot-9 senior who averaged 26.5 points per game, was named Second Team All-Ohio.

50 Years Ago This Week – 1963

After suffering losses in four of their first five exhibition contests in the spring of 1963, the Cincinnati Reds took on the New York Mets fifty years ago this week in hopes of reversing their recent misfortunes on the diamond.

Suiting up on the hill for the Mets was St. Marys native Galen Cisco, who was eventually credited with the victory after the Redlegs fell by a final of 3-2 in the exhibition game.

BOYS HOOPS: St. Marys, Celina fall to WBL co-champs in sectional finals

LIMA — The St. Marys boys basketball team went basket for basket with Bath for a quarter, but the Wildcats’ relentless defensive pressure and array of offensive weapons proved to be too much.

Bath pulled away from St. Marys behind junior Taren Sullivan’s 25-point night for a 76-52 sectional final victory on Friday night at Lima Senior to end the Roughriders’ season.

BOYS HOOPS: New Bremen wins sectional title, Rangers bow out

COLDWATER – The odds were against the New Bremen Cardinals basketball team Friday night in the Division IV sectional championship at the Palace in Coldwater. They were without their head coach Adam Dougherty, who was sitting out the second game of his suspension from being ejected from the Delphos St. John’s game two weeks ago, and they had a 13-day layoff since their last game.

The Cardinals didn’t let the obstacles get in their way as they used a big third quarter run to defeat the Marion Local Flyers 53-45 for the sectional title.

GIRLS HOOPS: Minster, Marion Local to collide on Saturday for district title

ST. MARYS — The Midwest Athletic Conference swept  Thursday’s Division IV district semifinal games at Memorial High School to set up yet another title tilt between backyard rivals.

Minster put on another stifling defensive performance in the nightcap in a 42-30 win over Ada, while Marion Local built a double-digit lead and then staved off Kaylee Patton and the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers in the fourth quarter for a 61-51 win in the night’s opening contest.

Fledderjohann named First Team All-WBL

St. Marys senior guard Garet Fledderjohann has been named First Team All-Western Buckeye League.

Fledderjohann, during the regular season averaged19.8 points per game, shot 40 percent from 3-point range and dished out 4.9 assists per game while becoming the third greatest scorer in Memorial High School history and passing the 1,000-point barrier. Fledderjohann currently has 1,088 points for his career — 102 points behind No. 2 on the list, Damon Goodwin, a University of Dayton standout, NBA draft pick and current Capital University head coach.

BOYS HOOPS: New Knoxville buries 10 3-pointers in win over Minster

COLDWATER — Minster faced a worst-case scenario when it comes to playing New Knoxville: almost all of the Rangers’ half-dozen perimeter threats were knocking down shots.

For the Wildcats  (12-11) it meant a long night of scrambling around, playing a virtual game of defensive wack-a-mole while New Knoxville spread the floor and whipped the ball around to find wide-open looks from beyond the arc.
