LIMA — Dominic Guarnieri won the match-play battle of St. Marys natives and University of Findlay grads to capture the Dr Pepper Championship golf title at Hawthorne Hills in Lima on Sunday.
Guarnieri, a former St. Marys standout and Roughrider varsity golf coach, defeated former St. Marys state qualifier and University of Findlay golfer Michael Schmitmeyer 4 and 3 in the championship match.
Guarnieri birdied three straight holes to start the back nine to earn his second Dr. Pepper title and his first in five years.
CELINA — Jarrett Taylor singled home the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning to give St. Marys a 5-4 win over St. Henry in the first game on Saturday and Celina scored three runs with two outs and edged St. Marys 4-2 in the nightcap, as the St. Marys ACME baseball team split a pair of games in the round robin tournament at Celina’s Montgomery Field.
St. Marys finished the two-day round robin tournament 2-1.
Isaac Fitzgerald earned the win on the mound for St. Marys in relief.
