MINSTER — The Minster baseball team remodeled on the fly.
It’s easy to look at Minster’s return to the state tournament in hindsight as a natural extension of last year’s success, but the Wildcats head back to Columbus with a line-up that looks only vaguely similar to the one that lifted them to their first-ever state baseball championship last June. And it’s a team that dealt with adversity throughout the 2012 season.
Remade and retooled, Minster is looking for another title with a lot of new names on the line-up card.

LEXINGTON — Kelly Heitkamp, a St. Marys Memorial junior, qualified for the state tournament in the girls pole vault with a third-place finish at the Division II regional meet at Lexington on Saturday.
Heitkamp cleared nine feet, six inches — one of seven vaulters to hit that mark. Heitkamp won the tiebreaker (the vaulters' second-best vaults are compared) to tie for third with Liberty-Benton's Alex Johnson.
Heitkamp will compete at state at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus on Saturday, June 2 at 9 a.m.
TIPP CITY — The Covington Buccs jumped out to an 8-0 lead and held off a late Minster rally for a 9-6 win in a Division IV regional final game at Tipp City Tippecanoe Middle School on Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats bow out of the tournament after the longest postseason run in the program's history. Minster ended its season at 23-7.
Minster spotted the Buccs eight runs before bringing the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh.
Covington moves on to play in the state semifinals on Thursday in Akron.

TROY — Minster’s win in the boys 4-by-400 meter relay in the night’s final event in record regional time propelled the Minster boys track team to the Division III regional title on Friday night.
The Wildcat boys finished with 57 points to edge out second-place finishers Covington and West Liberty Salem, who both had 52 points.
The Minster girls finished second behind Versailles. Minster had 49 points while the victorious Tigers had 66.5 points.
LEXINGTON — The St. Marys girls track team competed in two events at the Division II regional track meet at Lexington on Thursday night.
St. Marys sophomore Erin Kinkley took 12th in the girls high jump competition. Kinkley cleared four feet, 10 inches.
Kinkley reached the regional tournament after capturing the district title at Fostoria last week.
The St. Marys girls 4-by-800 meter relay team of Sara Lininger, Kristen Dammeyer, Marissa Schrolucke and Lexi Grothause finished 16th in the finals with a 10:45.02 time.

Hanna Floyd started the attack with a solo home run early.
Stephanie Albers’ soaring shot to left field pounded against the plastic sign above the scoreboard to give Minster some breathing room in the sixth inning.
TROY — Minster senior long jumper Derek Collins and the boys distance relay team won regional titles while pole vaulter A.J. Huelsman and the girls 3200 meter relay team punched their tickets for Columbus for the Wildcats on the first day of the Division III regional track and field meet at Troy Memorial Stadium on Wednesday.
Collins captured the regional long jump title when he cleared 21 feet, 4.5 inches on his final jump. Collins edged New Lebanon Dixie’s Ryan Jordan, who had a jump of 21 feet, 4.25 inches.
