SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — An early lead got away from the St. Marys baseball team in slow motion — just like the cotton candy pitches of Shawnee reliever Kyle Miller entering and disappearing from the hitting zone.
Shawnee chipped away at St. Marys’ lead one run at a time while the Roughriders couldn’t figure out a way to add insurance runs against the soft-tossing of Miller.
It meant a quick tournament exit for a Roughrider team that won 17 games this season.
MINSTER — Austin Knapke is no ordinary number three in a rotation.
Minster's senior starter got the ball with injuries afflicting the Wildcats' top two starters and tossed a five-inning no-hitter in Minster's 10-0 win over Fort Recovery in a Division IV sectional title game.
WAPAKONETA — The Western Buckeye League championship meet ran preliminaries along with field event finals and the 3200 meter relay final on Wednesday at Wapakoneta’s Harmon Field.
St. Marys turned in four top-five finishes at the league meet’s first day.
