NEW BREMEN — The New Bremen Cardinals softball team recovered from a shaky start and had an eight-run fifth inning to come back and defeat the Marion Local Flyers 15-12 in a MAC contest Monday at New Bremen.
“We gave them a five spot in the first inning,” Cardinals head coach Craig Griesdorn. “But we responded with three in the bottom of the first. They came back with six but we came back from an 11-3 deficit and the reason why we did that was that we cleaned up our errors and we put the ball in play.”
NEW KNOXVILLE — Lima Temple Christian’s seven-run third inning broke things open and the Pioneers defeated New Knoxville 15-4 in six innings on Monday.
Temple Christian collected 14 hits and scored in five of its six at-bats.
Evan Sutton earned the win on the mound for the Pioneers.
New Knoxville’s Adam Porter took the loss on the mound.
Temple Christian improved to 3-10. The Rangers fell to 2-9.
New Knoxville travels to Fort Recovery on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. Midwest Athletic Conference game.
PIQUA — The St. Marys boys tennis team won at all five positions to sweep Piqua on Monday night.
St. Marys improved to 8-5 on the season. The Roughriders travel to Defiance today at 4:30 p.m.
St. Marys’ Troy Newlove defeated Austin Hemm at first singles, 6-1, 6-4.
The Roughriders’ Cole Brooks won second singles over Piqua’s Brandon Bercot, 6-4, 6-0.
The St. Marys first doubles team of Ryan Wenel and Noah Hartsock won 6-3, 6-7 (7-3), 6-3.
