VAN WERT — Van Wert turned in a strong defensive performance over the final three quarters and used an offensive outburst in the second quarter keyed by a bench player’s breakout night for a 68-43 win over St. Marys on Friday night.
“I just thought our attention to the little things got better and we were able to capitalize when we made them uncomfortable,” Van Wert head coach Dave Froelich said.
Offensively for the Cougars, a bench player was the catalyst.
ROCKFORD — A lay-up by Parkway’s Derek Luth with 25 seconds left proved to be the difference in the Panthers’ stunning win over New Bremen on Friday night.
Parkway picked up only its second win of the season with a 52-51 victory over the Cardinals.
“They were tougher than us,” Cardinals head coach Adam Dougherty said. “That was the difference. They were tougher and competed harder and they wanted it more and we took it. It was that way the entire night. No matter what it was it was like that the entire night.”
MINSTER — A big second half lifted St. Henry to a 51-42 victory over fellow Midwest Athletic Conference opponent Minster on Friday night’s Senior Night.
“For as well as we started out the game — we had pretty good ball movement and ball reversal and so forth against their zones, which we addressed the entire week — we just did a rotten job once they switched defenses and that unfortunately carried over into the second half, and they basically just slowed us to a crawl,” said Minster head coach Mike Lee.
VERSAILLES — New Knoxville’s 26-point fourth quarter made things interesting, but ninth-ranked Versailles held on for a 69-63 win over the Rangers on Friday night at Versailles High School.
New Knoxville senior Lucas Leffel scored a game-high 26 points. Jake Allen added 16 points and Andrew Arnett had 11 points for New Knoxville.
Chad Winner scored a team-high 23 points for Versailles while Kyle Ahrens added 19 points.
