CELINA — The match went all too familiarly for the St. Marys girls soccer team.
Celina scored early after a penalty, and the Roughriders were left playing catch-up against a tough Bulldog defense the rest of the evening.
Celina scored early in the first half via penalty kick in a 1-0 win over rival in a Division II district semifinal on Wednesday night.
The Bulldogs won the regular season match similarly on Sept. 13, when an early free kick goal was all the Bulldogs needed to earn the 1-0 win in a key Western Buckeye League match.
LIMA — New Knoxville’s record-setting season came to an end on Wednesday night, as Liberty-Benton edged out the Rangers 1-0 in a Division III district semifinal at Lima Stadium.
L-B’s Zach Garver scored at the 28:31 mark of the first half to score the match’s lone goal. The goal was Garver’s 30th of the season.
New Knoxville bows out of the tournament with an 11-5-1 record. The Rangers set records for team wins and goals scored in a season in 2012.
The Rangers were shut out for just the third time this season.
KALIDA — Ottawa-Glandorf earned a fifth set win to defeat New Bremen, 17-25, 27-25, 25-21, 20-25 and 15-11 in the Division III district semifinals held at Kalida High School on Wednesday.
The Titans (20-5) will go on and face the Coldwater Cavaliers (18-7) , who upset the Liberty-Benton Eagles in four games, 19-25, 25-16, 26-24 and 25-18. The Titans and Cavaliers will play Saturday in the district finals at 6 p.m. at Kalida High School.
The Cardinals finish their season at 13-12.
