Updated on Monday, Aug. 8:
CELINA — Minster’s hopes for an ACME state title found a roadblock in the personage of Vandalia Butler catcher Lance Straley.
Minster had the tying run thrown out at the plate and bowed out of the state ACME tournament with a 3-2 loss to Vandalia Butler on Friday night.
Minster (17-8) appeared to be on the verge of evening the score and seizing the momentum in the loser’s bracket game when Ethan Wolf lined a single into centerfield with runners on first and second with two outs in the top of the sixth.
CELINA — Throughout its long high school and ACME tournament runs, the Minster baseball team has relied on its pitching and defense to carry it.
Both deserted the Wildcats on Wednesday night, as Bowling Green scored six runs on four Minster errors to defeat the Wildcats, 6-2, in the winners bracket semifinal of the 2011 ACME State Tournament held at Montgomery Field in Celina.
Minster now must work its way through the loser’s bracket with three straight wins in two days if it wants to earn an ACME state title.

CELINA — Before Minster could play its game against Toledo Central Catholic on Sunday, it had to play the waiting game.
All six hours of it.
The Wildcats made the long wait worth the hassle by jumping out to an early lead in an 8-3 win over Toledo Central Catholic on Sunday night in the second round of the state ACME tournament.
Minster arrived at Montgomery Field at 3:30 p.m., only to watch six separate rain delays extend the preceding game between Defiance and Vandalia Butler into a seven-hour affair.
CELINA — Minster's Doug Huber finished what he started.
Huber delivered a game-winning bases-loaded walkoff single to validate his complete game 10-strikeout one-hitter on the mound in Minster's 1-0 win over Springfield on Saturday in the opening game of the 2011 state ACME tournament in Celina.
Huber smacked a 3-1 pitch into the right field gap to bring home Devon Poeppelman and win the game after Springfield intentionally walked the two batters in front of him to set up a force at every base.

CELINA — Grand Lake entered a four-game home stretch this week hoping to make up ground on the playoff contenders in the GLSCL. Instead, the Mariners’ dimming playoff hopes flickered even more as they lost their eighth out of last 10 games on Wednesday night.
The Lima Locos methodically downed the Mariners 8-1 on another hot, hazy night at Jim Hoess Field in Celina.
Grand Lake (10-18) dropped to 1-2 on the current homestand — with only a make-up game tonight against South Division leader Southern Ohio left to make up ground.
MINSTER — The state champion Minster baseball team will be honored with a ceremony at Great American Ball Park on Monday, July 25.
The ceremony will be held at 6:48 p.m. in the pregame before the Cincinnati Reds take on the New York Mets at 7:10 p.m.
Minster won the Division IV state championship this spring.
The Reds have a payment plan for Minster’s followers and are sitting in section 136 as a group.
CELINA — Grand Lake Mariners head coach Mike Goldschmidt says his team understands the sense of urgency needed as it looks to climb out of its last-place positioning and into a Great Lakes Summer College League playoff spot with a late-summer charge.
After a stretch of six losses in seven games and a dwindling number of games to make up the deficit in the standings, Grand Lake hopes its late two-out magic on Monday night is the start of something.
