Following a 0-0 deadlock at the end of the first period, St. Marys lit up the scoreboard first in their rivalry battle with Wapakoneta when Terry Young blasted through the Redskin defense for the 22-yard score. Minster enters the postseason for the 11th time in school history on Saturday night when it travels to Springfield Catholic Central. The Wildcats' playoff tradition began back in 1987 under Ken Newland, who led Minster to five straight playoff appearances, an 8-5 postseason record and the 1989 Division V state championship.
Newland took Minster to the playoffs for first five years as head coach, a run of success based on a powerful running game.
Area players dotted the recently released all-district volleyball teams from District 8.
Divisions I, II and III
St. Marys senior Jenny Brown and Rider senior Cierra Anderson were both named First Team All-District 8.

The Minster football team is in the playoffs in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1991, led by the Midwest Athletic Conference’s top-ranked defense and a balanced offense that features a veteran offensive line and two standout running backs.
The Wildcats (7-3) will travel to Springfield Catholic Central (8-2) on Saturday in a re-match of last season's first round playoff game from last season. Minster upset the top-seeded Irish in that game.
The Wildcats are an even more confident bunch this season.

Dick West left his St. Marys Memorial assistant defensive coaching job in the 1970s knowing full well the head coaching spot of the Roughriders wouldn’t be available any time soon — not with Skip Baughman entrenched in his third decade at the position.
In what could be his final trip to the stadium named after his mentor, West left St. Marys on Friday night a 42-21 winner with his Shawnee Indians.
