Jerome Paul VanderHorst, 84, of Naples, Fla., passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, surrounded by his wife Janet and their entire family.
Born on April 6, 1929, to Chip and Marie in St. Marys, Jerry graduated from Memorial High School, where he was elected to schools Hall of Fame.
He later received his B.S. In psychology from the University of Dayton.
Elected into the Football Hall of Fame, Jerry later served on the Board of Trustees at U.D.
Vernon E. “Vern” Doenges, 91, of Wapakoneta, died at 2:20 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.
He was born on Feb. 18, 1922, on the family farm in St. Marys Township, Auglaize County, the son of William J. and Marie (Oldiges) Doenges, who preceded him in death.
On Sept. 11, 1948, he married Eileen M. Hasson, and she died on May 18, 2005.
Carolyn E. Parmelee, 76, 316 Midlane Drive, New Bremen, passed away at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at the Pavilion in Sidney.
She was born on Oct. 17, 1937, in Waynesville, the daughter of Carl and Esther (Kearns) Dakin and they are deceased.
She was married to Thomas Clark in July 1958, and he passed away on Oct. 11, 2009. She later married Richard Parmelee, and he preceded her in death.
Melba P. Lowery, 92, of St. Marys, died at 2:05 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at Auglaize Acres.
She was born on Sept. 30, 1921, in St. Marys, the daughter of Alva and Mary (Long) Burd, who preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Clarence Dorsten, Robert Hecht, and Charles B. Lowery.
Survivors include three sons, James Dorsten of Piqua, Ronald (Mildred) Dorsten of Wapakoneta and Daniel “Lee” (Jean) Dorsten of St. Marys, nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
H. Gene Tester, 65, of 08304 County Road 33-A in Wapakoneta, died at 9:25 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at his residence. He fought a 5 1/2 year battle with multiple myeloma, and passed away peacefully with his family and close friends at his bedside.
He was born on Oct. 4, 1948, in Celina, to Howard and Wilma (Schultz) Tester.
On Aug. 21, 1971, at Westview United Methodist Church in Cridersville, he married Cathy J. Archer, who survives.
Elizabeth “Betty” Sampson, 82, of the Celina Manor Nursing Home, and formerly of 159 Longview Court, St. Marys, died at 9:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at the Celina Manor.
She was born on Dec. 30, 1931, in St. Marys, the daughter of Patrick Richard and Stella (Fitzpatrick) Kelley.
She married James H. Sampson on Sept. 30, 1950, and he survives at the residence.
Isabella Burke, 97, currently of 1300 Circle Drive, Otterbein St. Marys, and formerly of 06523 Glynwood Road, St. Marys, died at her Otterbein residence on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014.
Isabella was born on Nov. 14, 1916, in Carthegena, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Buehler) Hartke.
She married David T. Burke on Aug. 31, 1940, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Carthegena, and he preceded her in death on July 29, 1986.
Mary Ann Preston, 80, of 11719 Kingfisher Lane, St. Marys, and formerly of Celina, passed away at 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at the Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community.
She was born on Sept. 22, 1933, to the late Isadore and Margaret (Sudhoff) Schurman.
Lois A. McCune, 88, formerly of New Bremen, died on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, in Michigan.
She was born on Sept. 4, 1925, in New Bremen.
She was the daughter of John and Alma (Wissman) Scheer.
In 1941, she married Franklin A. McCune, and he died on Aug. 30, 2012.
She is survived by her sons, Randy (Pat) McCune and Glen (Cindy) McCune, both of Michigan, daughter-in-law Karen Davey Stewart of Alaska, nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and her sister, Evelyn Ruppert, of St. Marys.
Julitta S. Nedderman, 90, of St. Marys, died at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at the Golden Living Center-Valley, in St. Marys.
She was born on Oct. 13, 1923, near New Bremen, the daughter of the late Leo and Esther (Uetrecht) Nedderman.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Loree Nedderman of New Bremen, and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Virgil and David Nedderman.
