Opal L. Barber, 91

March 26, 2013

Opal L. Barber, 91, of Celina, died  on Sunday, March 24, 2013 , at The Laurels of Shane Hill, Rockford.

She was born on July 28, 1921, in Mercer County,  to the late Earl and Edith (Deitsch) VanTilburg.

She married John C. Barber on Nov. 21, 1939,  and he preceded her in death on May 21, 1998.

She is survived by three children, Don Barber of Mendon,  Va., (Robert) Hoenie of Del Rio, Texas  and Marilyn Hoenie of Celina; 15 grandchildren;  28 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Jerry D. Piper, 60

Jerry D. Piper, 60, of Celina, died at 12:37 a.m. Monday, March 25, 2013, at Mercer Health in Coldwater, of natural causes.

He was born on May 21, 1952, in Celina, to parents Dana Piper, who survives in Celina, and Mary Cisco Piper, who preceded him in death.

On Sept. 2, 1972, he married Linda Hime, who survives in Celina.

Also surviving is a son, Brad and Jacci Piper of Celina; a daughter, Cari and Avery Calabrese of Celina; three brothers; a sister; two grandchildren.

Paulette A. McJunkin, 85

Paulette A. McJunkin, 85, of Troy, and formerly of St. Marys, passed away at 1:35 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2013, at Auglaize Acres in Wapakoneta.

She was born on Oct. 3, 1927, in Rochefort, Belgium, to the late Eugene and Maria Pemers Collin.

She was married to John R. McJunkin Jr., on Nov. 30, 1946, and he preceded her in death on July 8, 1979.

Also preceding her in death was one sister.

Eileen Stienecker, 88, of St. Marys, died on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Auglaize Acres Nursing Home in Wapakoneta. Arrangements are being completed with the Miller Funeral homes in St. Marys.

Nancy A. Verhorn, 79

March 25, 2013

Nancy A. Verhorn, 79, of 806 Fox St. New Bremen, died at 10:10 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Minster.

She had been a resident there for three months.

She was born on Nov. 18, 1933, to John and Nellie (Burton) Daly. They preceded her in death.

On June 25, 1955, she married Ralph “Bud” Verhorn in LaRue.

He died on Jan. 7, 2009.

Marilyn C. Miller, 77

March 22, 2013

Marilyn C. Miller, 77, formerly of Garfield St., Minster, died at 6:22 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Heartland of Piqua.

She was born on Oct. 19, 1936, in Maria Stein, to the late Henry and Matilda (Heitkamp) Thobe.  She married Dale Miller on Nov. 3, 1956, in St. Johns Catholic Church, Maria Stein. He preceded her in death on Sept. 22, 2012.

She is survived by children Kristine and Mike Gorman, Piqua and Tony and Amy Miller, Fort Wayne, Ind.; four grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; five sisters; five brothers; two sisters-in-law.

Werner G. “Bern” Schwartz, 58

Werner G. “Bern” Schwartz, 58, of New Bremen, died at 11:35 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013, at his sister’s residence near St. Marys.  

Werner was born in St. Marys on May 11, 1954, to the late Louis C. and Rita B. (Dues) Schwartz.

Mary C. Moeller, 82

Mary C. Moeller, 82, of Celina, died at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Celina Manor, of natural causes.

She was born on March 30, 1930, in Sharpsburg, to parents Edward and Louisa Muhlenkamp Feltz, both of whom preceded her in death.

On June 2, 1948, she married Louis Moeller, who preceded her in death on Jan. 29, 1996.

Kathleen Sue "Kathy" Shirk, 60

Kathleen Sue "Kathy" Shirk, 60, Celina, died on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Van Wert County Hospital.

She was born on May 5, 1952.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Kelly; mother, Ruth Ketrow Kelly Schnack; and stepfather, John Schnack.

She married Dennis Shirk on Oct. 2, 1971, and he preceded her in death on July 29, 1994.

Surviving are a daughter, Amanda (Charlie) Stucke; a son, Willis (Joanie) Shirk, five grandchildren; and her father-in-law, Robert Shirk, all of Celina; and a brother.

Ethan Grant Rife, 4

Ethan Grant Rife,  4, of Washington Township, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at his home.

He was born on Nov. 1, 2008, in Kettering.

Ethan was baptized at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital and was a member of the Church of the Incarnation.

He enjoyed watching Mickey Mouse, playing with cars and reading "The Hungry Little Caterpillar."
